I came to know about the replacement of the sensor when they check in my E90 by mistake for the job,by right it should be done during the next oil change. So I sent my ride in for nothing.I was so piss of by the stupid mistake of the counter girl.Any of you guys know something about what is all about? I appreciate to know more about the issue.BTW I was advised by the service adviser to have my second oil change halfway between 25K km outside and do the "officially" second oil change with them since it is still under warranty when they call at 25k km.He told me .there were "problems" for the engines because of the 25k km oil change.I was wondering since BMW is aware of this problems why it still stick to 25k km oil change. My guess is that it want to save some money at our expense

The recall is for all 3 series or to any specific one?

Selena Gomez Loves UGGs

Rising Disney star Selena Gomez has certainly found herself in the spotlight over the past few months. Best known for starring as Alex Russo in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, Gomez is not only a talented actress and singer but has a keen eye for fashion as well.Clevver TV in Beverly Hills did a spot on this incredible teen and her sense of style. Selena Gomez loves boots, including tall sleek styles and (of course) her favorite UGG boots, which she claims keep her warm in the winter!Check out this video to see Selena’s UGGs as well as tons of her casual and red carpet outfits! She’s definitely got a keen sense of style!

They can actually put it in a nicer manner rather than telling u to do the in-between oil change elsewhere.

I was advised by the service advisor to treat the BSRI oil change as a bonus oil change BMW M'sia provide and we should ourself bear for the 10k km in-between oil change, if we want our engine to... *can't remember this part*.. :p

So the in-between oil change should be considered as a "highly recommended option"... and we must admit the fact that the BSRI is a sales gimmick of some benefit for the customer which we cannot entirely depended on.

what camshaft sensor recall?? i didnt get any notice or call from bmw malaysia. if its a recall then its serious, and all registered buyers / owners should be notified. or are u saying that we will be notified when we send our cars in for bsri or they will quietly replace it without our knowledge? your post wasnt very clear.
as for the oil change, yes astroboy is correct. we should change the oil ourselves and not depend on the computer readouts.

Initially I was told that was for software upgading, and when i kicked a fuss since they said it was a mistake and can only be done during next oil change then the camshaft sensor replacement came out.I assume this is still at a very early stage and they have not issued the recall notice. As i said probabably the counter girl make a mistake setting me up for the job when I went there for some other complaint..It was about a wind noise at high speed which come only occasionally but then that is another story

I am sorry your guess is as good as mine. They will flag your car base on the chassis no in their server at cyberjaya.

Hi guys,

The recall that I know is to "Replace pulse sensor at exhaus t camshaft" (Im reading the description from the Whitecard portal for my car). Dont really know beyond this, my SA also couldnt really explain too... Btw, my car is a 2008 320i sport. I think its not a critical recall since its supposed to be done the next time we send our car in for service. Can always find out at BMW voice I guess....

Cheers

The whitecard url is http://whitecard.bmw.com.my . In my case the repair work is in the service history since AB had it done prior to delivring the car in Dec 08.

oh ok. thats why i didnt see it cos its specific to ur car. i actually own the same model that u drive ie 320i sports 2008. but clicking on my history didnt show up anything except what i've done at IA.

thanks

d recall for camshaft sensor is only for e90 320i. it seems tht d N46 engine camshaft sensor have an improved version. get urs checked.

regarding d "in between 25k oil change", it is highly suggested due to engine oil sludge problems. sludge is formed due to long engine oil intervals. bmw msia do have a remedy for this case. engine flushing is d easiest remedy for this problem. if d sludge problem is untreatable by engine oil flushing, then worst come 2 worst it will require a complete overhaul. so b adviced 2 change ur engine oil regularly (every 10k should do d trick).

p/s: if any of u happen 2 have engine oil sludge problems, make sure 2 remind ur advisor 2 also check d oil separator. this might clogged up with sludge 2, making ur engine shaking n less responsive.

Oli, so how do they check the cam shaft sensor? or how do I know if cam shaft sensor problem? Engine died?! Cannot start?

The SC is selling this "Castrol engine flush oil", pour it in, drive it around, can't remember for how long or far, then drain it. You can actually use it because its "oil".. but a little abrasive to clean the sludge. This product is there to specifically tackle sludge problems.

shouldnt the system check function which is automatically activated each time we on the ignition be able to detect camshaft sensor failure???

aiyo. ini macam pun ada ka??

camshaft sensor can be checked by visual inspection. just loosen the allen key screw (size 4 if im not mistaken) and remove it from the engine head. the old camshaft sensor is plainly rounded and d cylinder part equal in diameter from d base till end. the new version, the cylinder part have 2 diameters, larger diameter from the base n then it will shrink abit till d end.

to know d camshaft sensor fault, usually by diagnose or by revving the engine. u can actually feel d revving picking up slowly n sumwhere around d higer range of revving (4k++), the revving will become sluggish n in some cases d engine will vibrate slightly compared to normal operation. just for reminders, engine will have vibrations when high revving, but for d camshaft sensor fault, it will vibrate slightly more.

another symptom is when u start d car (usually in cold start), the engine will start n after idling for a few secs, it will dies off by itself.

be adviced tht both symptoms usually address to a faulty comshaft sensor. it can also b a faulty valvetronic motor, valvetronic motor lost its initial reference point, clogged oil separator, oil sludges, air leak, faulty ignition coil etc etc etc. have a specialist 2 check ur car when these symptoms occur. n also give them ample of time 2 troubleshoot.

im not so sure that it will give an engine warning light ON if d camshaft sensor is faulty. most probably it will store fault codes in d DME and only can be confirmed by diagnosing d car.

ok i have done the camshaft sensor replacement at Ingress Auto. And that was only After I told the service advisor to check my key fob to see whether my car is affected :)
NOW NO MORE JERKING.

This one's another, BMW announces recall over potential fire hazard! More than 32,000 vehicles have been integrated in a BMW recall, in which a component could pose a fire danger. The situation, exclusively contained to certain models made between 2008 and 2011, is with a part that can smolder and burn in automobiles with either 8 or 12-cylinder turbocharged engines. It is just disheartening that the engineers have been unable to fix this problem for over years now. :3
