Hello, Not sure if this is the right forum.. Can anyone advise what the process is like buying a secondhand car... after all the hunt and price negotiated.. what is next?? Thanks!

Next is getting the loan, from your side. Once your loan is approved, your finance company will settle with your seller's finance company. Get the transfer paper's signed (can get a copy from used car dealers), photocopy of IC from seller and etc. You can get the transfer done on your own at either JPJ Wangsa Maju (if it is Wilayah registered) or JPJ Padang Jawa (Selangor). Now I heard the car needs to be inspected by Puspakom before the transfer, so you may need to get that done before the visit to JPJ.

Cheers

one note : if buying from used car , pls ensure you write clearly the details of deposit paid ...

etc : deposit paid for which car ( pls write down the number plate and type of car) , how long time frame needed to get the loan approved , case of not approved how much can you get back in return for the sum paid deposit ...

pls ask them to write this out in BLACK and WHITE ...

one more important thing is to insist on the original AP if the car has been imported or certified copy from customs..this document is very important...speaking from experience!

Prepare RM for repairs. If BMW prepare a lot of them just in case:listen:

Thanks for the advice, Guys..

InitialM, your advice very important, yes.. must prepare to pay more than the normal wear and tear.. just in case.

I finally got my e46, working on the documents etc now, hopefully the car wont give me too much problem...

Cant wait to drive it everyday!!

It's just the 318i, 2L.. year 2004.. that's all I know ya..

This valvetronic 2.0 4 cylinder engine. Quite a delicate engine but petrol save.
My advice change oil regularly every 5k for semi or max 10k for fully. Also use the rite brand & viscocity oil. This will help all the gasket & seals to last long:top:

Sis Pakupakis - CONGRATS in choosing the ultimate driving machine! :top: Yes, if the car is a 2004 local assembly, it should be considered "face lifted". Ur ride would probably be the same or almost the same as mine (E46 Lifestyle). Other than the small 2L engine and the rest of the equipment in a standard BMW E46, it normally comes with, to name a few: 16" wheels (most people change to bigger ones after owning the ride), shiftronic gear-shift, multi-functions steering wheel, memory front seats, all leather interiors, auto-rain sensor, rear blind, CD changer located in the rear boot, white lamps, etc. If you see upgrades versus what listed here, consider urself lucky as the previous owner(s) have done the upgrades on your behalf. Again, welcome to the sheer bliss of driving a pleasurable machine.

Hi Hi.. thanks again for your wishes.. and the info.

I dont think the old owner did any mod on the car.. base on your comments, not sure if there is any rain sensor or memory seat tho. Hmm.. either there are lots more to discover, or there arent any??

I wld love to get 17" rims.. haha.. but pbly wait a while first.. need to top up the pocket a bit.. hehe.. Also no idea where to get, how to get etc etc etc..

I have been driving the manual e30.. still love it, but the e46 is much better in many ways, especially in traffic jams!

Wow.. you have been a bimmer fan for long then. E30 is a legend, I must say . About the wheel, don't worry, you'll find many forumers who can give u free advice on what size/brand/ori vs replica/offset/etc when u really r up to ur upgrades :listen:.

About ur current car, don't worry so much. You've got urself the face-lifted version prior to Lifestyle.. ie without the memory seat & rain sensor (maybe summore but I dunno what). I'm absolutely sure that the previous owner did not dismantle those cute toys prior to selling it to you. Based on what the salesperson informed me then, AB threw in a bunch of additional features into Lifestyle to attract more customer. I took it at face-value then... I guess there are some truth in it .

Nways, happy riding (in traffic jam?). Gotta bring it out every now and then & try to floor the pedal. Btw, I am happy with my fuel consumption (~9.5L/100km, mix b/w Klang Valley traffic woes + hiways).

I am currently looking to buy second hand car which was imported. I quizzed the seller regarding the AP as he only had a photocopy of it and he said that customs keeps the original and he only received a copy. He said I could check with customs using the reference number on the copy o the AP. Is this correct - how would I go about checking this with customs?

I am also looking to buy used car which was imported. She said I could check with customs using the reference number on the copy o the AP. Is this correct - how would I go about checking this with customs?

Thanks in advance!!!

yes the customs take the original and certify the copy with stamp and signature....it is impossible for the customs to check the AP if the car is older than 3 to 4 years...make sure that it is genuine and try to get the customs to certify...i got into difficulties with the buyer of my car after 1 year when he decided to sell and had only a photocopy of AP..loan rejected...so pls be careful check well..
