Hi Sifus,

Question...I'm looking for an engine/gearbox combo to swap with my car and there's another car for sale at a very good price. With the engine and gbox I want. However, on grant it shows the previous owner is paying only 2.0L tax and engine has been converted to 2.5L.

If I buy this car, can I legally drop this engine into my car and register with JPJ? Or is this car doomed to be used till scrap.

Appreciate any feedback.

So the car you want to buy has its engine changed without being endorsed by JPJ? As far as I know, you need the import declaration letter for the engine to get it endorsed. If the car you want to buy isn't endorsed you'll still need that letter to have your car endorsed once you take the engine. But, I think you already know that. Are you asking for a way around that?

When someone sells a vehicle , JPJ requires B5 inspection document (issued by Puspakom) to complete transfer of ownership. Endorse or not, during the Puspakom inspection they can find out if there are any changes done to the car (unless of course the inspection is performed thru other means).

And, pls be mindful when you start a thread with such a title. Just my 2cents.

Yes sir, pretty much want to know if I do get this car how should I cover my own backside...if there's a way. The grant shows that details aren't updated so engine number is correct but it will fail Puspakom inspection.

Anyway I think I'm just going to play safe and skip this one.

Yes thank you though I was wondering if I claim this car for its parts and want to utilize the engine, how should I go about it. Don't necessarily need this car to be road legal since I could sell later for scrap after claiming the parts I want.

Sorry if I offended with the title, didn't mean to...but its how I see it, it's not a road legal machine and I wanted to put that important point across.

Bro..you can still buy the car and use every part of it except the engine...
2 possibilities what the po did..
- convert from 2.0 to 2.5 without register with jpj hence paying 2.0 rtax
- punched the engine no.( method that is widely use)..

want to play safe....don't use the engine... :)

oh...with that..the car cannot change name...transfer ownership..

So basically, you are buying the car for the engine n transmission to swap into your own car? If so, you still have to make the numbers match with your current ride's JPJ form and the swapped engine. If not, you will have issues when you want to sell your car with the swapped engine.
