Greeting Dear Forumers,I'm planning to purchase a 5 series E60, though several concerns were bump into my head; no specific engine cc, need existing drivers like you all to recommend the following:1) Any good dealers for purchasing use/ recondition 5 series?2) What is the recommended workshop around KL/ Ampang area?3) What is the estimated maintenance would cost per service?4) Reliability of the car? (Common heard BMW have faulty electronic devices...)Kindly advice me, as i'm planning to purchase after CNY,Cheers!

Please go to the newbie coloum and intruduce your good self before posting any question. TQ

pls also use the search facility as there is a lot of informative threads on this subject..

Hi Lancelot,

I had recently bought one and here are my answers to some of your questions;

1. Do consider the main dealers such as Sapura Auto or if you have to Auto Bavaria (see my other post re AB). They have a good selection of vehicles and you get peace of mind when you buy from them. Recons are tempting esp with their variety and selection but due to the amt of electronics on the car, I sleep better knowing I got it from a main dealer.

2. If you buy from a main dealer, your service/maintainance is covered for 3 yrs or 60k km, whichever earlier (from year of initial registration if second hand). For subsequent services, I would still consider sending it back to the main dealers considering how much the car cost. I think its false economics to save RM500 on a car costing over RM300k.

3. No idea as I just got my car. Again with a main dealer, you are covered for a little while.

4. Same as above. A little too early to tell for me. I did search extensively on the net for issues before my purchase but I didnt find anything major (most issues cited were related to idrive, transmission on 545 and 550).

I am very happy with my 525 sports (hopefully will remain so for the years to come!). Engine is fantastically smooth. Handling is amazing. Suspension is firm but on the comfortable side. PDC is brilliant. iDrive isnt as difficult to use as many have made it to be. Gripes are slight lag in throttle response and initial launch from standstill, and the steering feels a little remote.

Good luck with your hunt!

Hi,

I did try to search in this forum, yet did not find related information which i've desire to know, that's why I post this message.

Other than Auto Bavaria, is there any other choices that I can go for? because i've found in Internet, there's 525 03 which is selling @ 240K; but don't know whether reliable not..

Lancelot,

if you are getting car from an existing owner or 2nd hand car dealer, u can request for car to be sent for full diagnostic and check up with a trusted workshop. Request for full service history if local unit but foreign non reg units probably have none. Imported non reg units may also have some compatibility issues eg radio frequencies for Jap units, manuals in Jap if at all available, no camera sensors though some may have sun roofs...you'll find a lot of literature on this in forum.

AB pre-owned will normally be at least 2005/6 but not older E60s. Getting from them will give you added comfort that unit would have undergone full check up and may even have some unexpired warranty and service/maintenance leftover. One additional advantage from AB is that their units are all hot weather versions.

The other gurus can add on further... My 2 cents.

If you buy used local, the interest rate is slightly higher but at least you will know the history of the car, provided the owner have service history. You can always send the car to AB for servicing which on average will cost you from RM800 - RM1K+ perservice. The software can easily be upgraded. On recond car, they may adjust the odometer and you will not know the actual KM. However, the recond have wide range of selection such as TV, sunroof etc. Most of mechanics outside may not have good experience on E60 diagnosis esp the OBD to rectify issues.

I will opt to buy local second hand or pre-owned from AB.

Hi, sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm also looking for an E60. Any difference (quality and performance wise; i know about the radio and other stuff) between Jap and UK spec cars? I'm more concerned from perspective of condition as I hear UK cars are generally less well kept than Jap ones. Anyone who bought UK can verify this?

Thanks!

Bro, go for jap spec much more better than UK spec interms of quality and spec. No regret. The radio can convert to UK version no prob.

Actually this UK one has the M-specs, with the lumbar support seats and all and kit. Also with PDC, front and back. I have not yet seen a Jap-spec model with PDC, even just for the back!

How much would fitting an original PDC cost? Is it possible to do for the front as well? That would need fitting a switch in the dash as well.

Thanks!

Looking for a 530 around RM260K. Main criteria is good condition. M-sports package is a plus. Oh, I adore gadgets so the more bells and whistles, the better :top:

Thanks!
