I think its time the office bearers carry a namecard of the Club (signifying name, position, email, website etc) if they do not already have one?

Its good for public relations and dealings with vendors, workshops, sponsors etc......

Thanks for the thought bro. It was however brought up during the last committee tenure but was not agreed by majority. Having siad that, I am agreeable with your reasoning and have the same thinking too. Will bring it up for discussion with the new MC seek their for their approval soon.

Cheers.

May I also put in another humble suggestion please?

With the advent of the internet, there will bound to be many page visits by Malaysians based overseas, and even ASEAN neighbours (like me, from Singapore). I've been very keen to join the club officially, but most of the benefits would be lost - and the cost would be somewhat steep if I joined as a 'normal' Official Member, do you think BMWCM would consider an affiliate program/membership for overseas interested parties? It'll obviously be cheaper to join as an affiliate member - and, to qualify, maybe the person would have to be physically in a different country or a foreign nationality or whatever (so as not to take advantage of the cheaper rates).

You can ask DocRayBoy about this - as most Physician or Surgeon Colleges (e.g. RCP(Edin), RCP(London) or RCP&S(Glasg) would have "Full" Fellow rates for Specialists residing in England/Scotland, but a reduced rate for Specialists in Overseas Faculty. He would be in a better position to explain the details, but I thought it would be applicable to BMWCM as well :)

I mean, I'd love to get the stickers, T-shirts whatever, but I'd probably not be able to join in the physical activities/drives as often as I'd like - and affiliate members wouldn't have voting rights, but would still feel a 'closer' part of the 'family'?

I guess the details could be worked out - but it's just a humble suggestion from me.

For your kind consideration, please :)

If for only RM300 (sing$120 est. US$100 est. Aus$80 ) to be a member of this OFFICIAL BMW CLUB with all the goodies worth more, yet still want to ask for discount then I think better join other clubs where need not pay any fees.

Thank you for the frank opinion. I guess we will just leave it to the Committee to decide?

For one SGD120, the THE CLUB has to go through constitution amendment whereby call for membership clause amendment, call for EGM or AGM for members vote to amend, preparation of AGM report and resolution, submission to ROS, wait for decision and then implement as the new constitution if approved to create a new membership criteria just so that one would feel justified paying the reduced membership fee because one cannot access most of the so call benefits since he is from land far far away...

I think he is joking la guys, if you find it funny just laugh and if not just ignore...

wait we got a provision for HONORARY membership which is free, so maybe the comm can extend the invitation to him, but make sure he is qualified la in the first place...kkakakakaka

Dear Wobbles,
You have been parading your hardwares to us much to our delight. You gave us an impression of someone who have made it good recently in life and is so passionate about BMW that you buy one after another. Congrats on your success and recent purchase. An entry into BMW club (Msia) or (SG) would be the next step. However, for a mere RM300-00 or S$120-00, you start to claculate what benefits you will lose because you are overseas, made me lose respect of someone who can afford to buy big car, big house but complains about having to buy a packet of peanuts.

I do agree with T2, who was the club ex VP, that an amendments to the constitution is required to provide for affiliation membership, because such clause and mode of membership does not exist in the constitution.

However, there is a provision in the constitution under Clause 9.6 whereby the committee can waive your entrance & subscription fees. May I recommend you this route.
Cheers

Alex, this is the formula of how the rich get richer la.....we poor fellas happily pay RM300, once a while we make some noise la....it is the "sense" and not the "dollars" that matter....

But nonetheless, your challenge is very fair

Actually, it was just a suggestion - I didn't think it would stir up a hornet's nest in the members' responses. Can I afford $120? Of course I can, as some of you have suggested - and thank you for your kind suggestion. The real question which I think has been misplaced is whether it is worth paying for?

Cost is quite different from value. If I perceive value in continuing to participate as a guest at no cost other than the cost of an Internet connection, the club would lose out on valuable financial support from a valuable potential source of overseas enthusiasts who want nothing more than to belong.

I doubt it that a T shirt and a car decal would cost the club RM200 or $80 should affiliate membership be approved - but, the value of having a wider financial support base from overseas enthusiasts would definitely be beneficial to the club's growth.

Think about it dispassionately. It was just a humble suggestion. If you wish not to hear fresh ideas, then I obviously know my place and will keep quiet. I'm not here to make enemies. I'm only passionate about the cars we drive :)

Peace bros

I do have one last comment to make - why would you see a cheaper membership for affiliates to be a "loss"? It wouldn't be taking anything out from the ordinary members, but be adding new ones to an already fantastic club. And these new members would actually be financial members who would otherwise just be club guests.

Just my 2 cents worth. I'll keep silent now

From your point of view, like you said, it's value and not costs which is what I understood from your initial post, but you also need to consider the value which the club sees in such suggestion which causes much procedure, time and money to its managing committee and members for a mere SGD80 or less? unless there is 100 interested passionate club guests like you (who resides in land other than West Malaysia) who you are representing when making such suggestion, then I can safely say that the club sees no value in such suggestion...values goes both way...

btw, you talk about financial support and lost revenue the club could gain or lose as if we are talking about SGD5k and above...no offence but reality check please...

Again, bro t2ribena, thank you for your response. Appreciate where you are coming from.

The way I see it - cost to the club in floating this suggestion at the next AGM or meeting = $0.00

Potential benefit = unknown, but no loss to the club. However, I daresay with the proper promotion and announcements and most importantly, good will and word of mouth, the return will definitely be more than the cost, which is, $0.00

I would NOT put the cart before the horse bro. I wouldn't build a school only if there are enough students, nor would I only build an airport only when there are enough passengers. Put the infrastructure, the foundation in place, then watch the process flow

Again, just an exchange of views. Hope you see it in the right spirit. I could easily just disappear, but if it's something worth considering, it's worth a bit of time to debate and think it thru. At least that's how I see it anyway.

Cheers

Surely bro t2ribena isn't suggesting that the MC convene a special meeting just to discuss my small suggestion!?!?!?

God forbid - just raise it up at the next AGM which you guys have to hold anyway!

Hence cost to the club is well and truly 0.00 :)

Wobbles,

just for your info, abt 40% of the members here who paid RM300 to be members I have not seen them before neither have they ever turned up for any events, some didnt even bother to collect the starter pack but every year without fail they will renew their fees...and no they are not residing out of the country but infact the majority is in the Klang Valley itself....just something for you to ponder.

Tks bro XXX for your clarification. Like I said, just a suggestion. No harm done, no hard feelings ya! If the idea doesn't go down well, no big deal. More importantly is to discuss the idea and see the benefits versus the disadvantages and move on from there.

Thanks :)

Congrats to the new committee!!! Hope this year and the next will be filled with fun activities :4:

I oso still hope to join as OM this year, god willing or easy-payment-scheme willing lol ...

So in the end are u sending in your application form or not.

To show your sincerity in wanting to be part of this Club why don't you join the club immediately so that u can propose at the next AGM for reduction in fees for people who live far far away like u.
