Just read about this recall this morning.LONDON, UK – German luxury carmaker BMW is recalling some 1.3 million cars worldwide for repair due to potential battery problems that could, in extreme cases, result in a fire. Monday’s statement by the Munich-based firm comes two months after its Mini auto company announced it was recalling 235,000 of its vehicles around the world after discovering an electrical water pump fault that could also cause fires. The cars involved in Monday’s recall are all 5 and 6 Series models built between 2003 and 2010, around 290,000 of which are on the roads in Germany, Fox Business reports...http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/business-tech/120326/bmw-recalls-13-million-vehicles-worldwide

Where should we go to get this replaced? We need to look for BMW Malaysia first or we can go directly to the dealers?

In that article, it was mentioned that BMW will contact the owners to come in for repairs but I doubt so as they may not be able to track down owners who have sold their cars.

I hope BMW Malaysia will come out with a proper official statement soon. Maybe our CM can get in touch with BMW Malaysia for clarification?

They should set up a database for car owner to do self check with VIN number. There's no way the dealer can keep track of their cars once these cars are sold in the used car market.

The way it's been conveyed at the Motoring news is that we have to bring in the car for the repair. The best I guess is to call them first to make the appointment.

In Singapore, there is only news report but no action from BMW/Performance Motors who claim they are trying to track down car owners. Munich Auto another authorised service centre has advised owners to bring cars in for a check - no charges will apply for recall.

Call AB JB, they know nuts bout it. They said have to refer used car dept. When I asked the contact no, they dunno? What a mentality....

Based on what was stated in the star, BMW Malaysia, MD said that, regardless if the cars are grey imports, they can be serviced at auto bavaria. Can someone confirm this?

Cheers

Confirmed. However, based on feedback, i am having doubts as to what the technicians actually "check." so far, i have yet to hear anyone with this defect and getting anything replaced. A bit worried that they are just trying to comply and push away responsibility for grey imports.

In my opinion, as long as the car comes from any BMW factory, any authorised dealer should accept it and go through thoroughly the inspection and replacement procedure.

I called BMW Voice yesterday and the guy took my name, number and car plate. After that he told me someone will get back to me but until now, no news.

since my car was in the workshop, they have inspected the recall issue and found that the cover has not melted yet so still ok but they will replace it...unfortunately the parts will only be available from May...

AB JB still have no idea abt the recall? i called them that day the same thing happened.... He said will call b me but till now receive nothing at all. Do we need to send to kl? Apply to recon cars too? Friends have been asking around too.
