hi all friends...i am new to this forum, i am also 1st time getting a bmw, but now...i only able to afford a 2nd hand one....:wink:buying price about RM 102k , 05 model interior is nice, mileage about 80,000kmmany says bmw often spoil, some say are like lady ( must be gentle to them ) , some say like to see doctor often...before i get into those troubles spending ten of thousands repairing in future...i would like to check fellow bm's buddies...hows is it really like with bmw cars...i read kinda much forum here....but still need more motivation on this ...hehehe thanks mate...hope i will be one official Bimmies soon:rock::rock::rock:

For 100K and cant afford the RM1000 manja BMW fee, you may have to look at Camry. If you are just makan gaji and earning below RM8000 I hope you to avoid the BMW.

Otherwise you may try looking for a E39 523/525/528 or E38 728 they will cost you around RM40K - RM80K therefore you still have RM20-30K spare for repairs.

what about choosing a E46 2001 model version.....or get a newer car 2005 version....

which one is easier to maintain ? i prefer a more hassle free maintainence bmw....

I am earning only 3k a month and I own 3 bmws.. it is all about setting your priority, if you do not have other financial commitment, go for it, after all, life is short and unpredictable.. In general, maintenance cost of of a well cared e46 is about RM300 a month, put aside 3-4k annually should be sufficient.
However, you need to be warned that once you are a owner of the UDM, you would be very fussy about keeping it to as close as perfect condition... and this would contributes to the "big" spending as per what you see in the "sticky" section.

Income of 8k and abv to own a BMW?... beg to defer. Sorry

hi bro..thanks alot for the infos...i am not really a "car-care" person...but i am a bmw fan since young..so 2-3k annually should be okay..not monthly 1k ...it turn me off driving even though can afford the maintainence

are u only looking at 318i any interest in 325i. The reason I asked is because a forumer bkslee just bought a e46 325i Msport with very low mileage from a dealer friend. And the dealer just brought in another 1 unit with very low mileage abt 28k. Don't doubt the mileage as these are car from Langkawi. Year 2005 original Msport going for about 120k. You may look at bkslee thread for his car photo. The car that I mentioned looks identical, same colour same spec.
I am no dealer and have no monetary interest in any form, just a fellow BMW lover. good luck

I am based on RM12000 per year bro. Some repairs are cheaps some are crazy expensive ie MAF, sensors, mounting, bushing, air-con, gearbox, engine, camber, tyres (usually secondhand car's tyres are almost botak or too old) o2 sensors etcs... a lot la especially the 1st 2 years of ownership

Fully agreed to u bro. But sometimes depends on luck too when u buy a second hand car. If the car was maintained well by previous owner then should be fine.

Btw Keong, if u ask me, between 318 and 325, i will definitely go for 325 due to the engine tech differences between a 4potter and a 6 potter. ofcoz more power means more cost for maintainance. But then if compare the maintenance cost between a camry/accord and e46, they are more or less the same. Just that there are few common prob/parts that need more attention such as radiator and engine oil leakage which mainly due to excessive heat generated by the BMW engine. Japanese car engine are generally cooler then Bmw engine, therefore their engine parts can last a little bit longer.
However if getting a 2nd hand bmw, expect another 3-10k for repair. So pls drive the car to a well known BMW workshop for inspection and ask for rough calculation for the things that need to be replace. Then nego with the dealer for more discount.
