:D hey guys..i'm in the market for a sports exhaust backbox for my e46 328i. whats the best in terms of perf gains/power delivery quality? whats the best in terms of sporty sound quality? whats the best in terms of looks? need feedback... and what if i change the mid section(incl the cats)to the one like what speedworks is offering..what wud be the effect?? wud it be better 4 me to maintain the cats? fyi i'm supercharging the engine in the future..

i have the Remus Ti Tip on my car.

have also heard of the ACS box too on a fello 325.

to me they both sound the same.

the ACS would be a slightly louder though.

power wise for a N/A car, the backbox ain't going to make a difference. more flow etc etc is all BS. that only works for cars that are turbo or supercharged, or unless u want all your power up top and none below!

btw, ACS gets their boxes made by Remus, just ask any one who bought an ACS box! its stamped on!

also btw, my Remus is for sale!

The following are popular in the US:

uucmotorwerks.com
rogueengineering.com

A forummer had the former on his 330i. Loud, bassy...sedap!

i am using eisenmann exhaust...it is louder than an ACS..maybe u can try it out..it is quite popular in the uk!

:dunno: i was told that the AC is the quietest of the bunch but also the most expensive..supersprint a tad louder and offers best feel/delivery.others i hv no idea..remus ti tip means what?? titanium tip izzit?? what are the advantages of having ti tip other than looking superb and a bit lighter?? why are u selling and how much?? :D

i'm sorta looking for something that doesn't drone at speed..had enough of that with my modified RD box on my prev(m3 e36).

u r right.. remus oem for acs...

btw, my remus drone around 3k-3.5k.. quite annoying at first, then got used to it.. hardly notice it anymore.. also, on the contrary, my car feel less powerful with the remus on.. :(

There are NO "high performance" exhaust systems that do not drone at certain RPMs. After all, to be "high performance", the design of the box has had to be optimised for gas flows at higher RPMs, cos there's where you get most of the power advantage.

As for supercharging, you don't need to worry about your exhaust system and how it'll affect the performance and vice versa.

nec,

can u pls explain more on this statement? meaning it's insignificant? i am thinking to increase boost and get better exhaust (maybe 2").. afterall, those s/c manufacturers claim that this would be their stage 2 (increase another 30hp). thanks in advance

which remus u using adliz?
i got the square tip type.. not that nice, i know.. but i got it cheaply from some rich fella from spore.. sound is nice, i like.. what about yours? dtm type? or round type? wanna exchange? ;)

ad,

ya, I do believe that the exhaust effect is insignificant as per concerning supercharged cars.

because the boost is linear across the RPM range, hence very much aping a N/A engine (though of course the volume of gasses involved is much more), unlike a turbo car, which has boost peaks.

gas flow is a really complicated thing, and what is a "better" exhaust? more sound? more torque? more hp? just get a setup that pleases you sonically, the differences in hp between similar systems will be very negligible.

i see.. thanks for the info.

so, just double checking if i gather correctly, changing from stock exhaust to aftermarket wud bring some improvements, but between one brand to another wud be negligible? thanks again

p/s: do u have any idea if the s54 exhaust manifold wud fit m54 without mod?

:D hey guys.. nec and adliz thanx for the info.
guess i'm looking for the quietest but still sporty sounding box..actually i don't like the standard box cuz of the tips which has got a flap in it and also the std box sounds a tad tinny and soft.
and i did find lit about SC mentioning that a sports exhaust sys wud be a worthy upgrade to accompany the SC..
here's another one..does the cat affect the SC's operations?

I've got the ACS (cant find the Remus stamo though). Its a love-hate relationship. Some days you just love it. Some nights you just want to send that girl home late quietly.....

:D how do you find the box? is the soundtrack too loud for u or is it just nice? how about droning at speed? do you feel any difference in the power delivery??
 yeah, can be a bit annoying when u r tryin to sneak a girl back to her house late..

how do you find the box?

Er - look under the car and there it is! (wow)

is the soundtrack too loud for u or is it just nice?

Its quite subjective. I find it ok, my gf finds it loud, maybe some ahbengs will find it quiet. Best for you to have a listen and judge yourself.

how about droning at speed?

It happens to all aftermarket exhaust. Mine drones 2000-3000rpm.

do you feel any difference in the power delivery??

Maybe psychologically.

 funny man!!!!
what i meant was what is your overall opinion of the AC box?
my RD box on my prev car didn't have the drone..only after refurbishing it at Jaafar's that i noticed the droning.quite excruciating on long drives..i frequently drive back to my hometown in penang.
