I would like to relate to my experience with my son's E46. It blowing hot hair as well. Couples of month back when it happen, top up gas fix it. But this time when my son went to accessories shop to top up the gas, the foreman said no compression. Compressor spoilt already and has to be replaced. I decided to go to regular popular air cond mechanic among us. He test the pressure and said gas is empty and conclude, coil leak. Quoted RM1500 to RM1800. I decided to get third opinion as dismantling the dashboard should be last resort. Look around mechanic that can seal the small leak using some sort like silicone injection. Found Leong Air conditioner work shop in Taman Perindustrian Kinrara. Went there today to give it a try. Good thing about the very nice and friendly boss, S K Leong is that, though he had 40 over years in air cond experience, he never want to do assumption. He did a compression test using nitrogen on the compressor first. The pressure drop rather fast and he use conventional method of soap to detect the leak. Found out leaking on the compressor. the top part gasket. Not really sure which gasket or seal. Will post the picture later. To be more certain I asked him to do the test on the coil as well to make sure is it really true it is leak as well. He has the adaptor to the coil and did the pressure test using normal pressure 225 psi. Leave it for about 1.5 hours. What a relief, I do not have to dismantle the dash board. There is is no leak on the coil. The pressure of 225 psi stays. He will need to remove my compressor to fix and service it, if possible. I wish I do not have to replace the compressor. Touch wood. Time runs out today and decide to come back later to fix it. I will update this thread.
