So how much is a reasonable MAC.. hehe..

Our ERP in the office is running on UNIX box and clients are Windows 98 and above with IE6 components used for the interface. Would MAC fail in such environment?

We also have Sybase and MS SQL server that we need to access. MAC can ka? ODBC how? Use Windows one?

For media, advertising, publishing industry, photo or even movie editing, MAC win hands down, no need to look else where!

Mate, Sybase IS an Apple partner. http://www.sybase.com/partner/mac

Accordingly, MS SQL server can be accessed and ODBC drivers are available. http://uda.openlinksw.com/odbc/express/odbc-sqlserver-ee/

Cheers, friend! :)

I came across a friend who could not open company email using MS outlook. Do we need to perform some sort of configuration? I do like the idea of utilizing 2 graphics card at a time. Can we use this facility while the system is currently running on Windows OS?

Bro, what version of windows is your friend using? And what error message is displayed? If they can't receive mail are the server settings of the mail server in Outlook correct?

In windows the mac will automatically switch to using the higher-specced graphic card, but there are tools online that let you play around with that. However i don't recommend this as the settings of some of those tools may actually mess up your windows OS.

For trouble free computing, you can run it as it is.

Just get the IBM Thinkpad T400.

I have the older version T60 and had the the T42. Perhaps I am bias with my selection of laptops, but having a Thinkpad is really great especially when it comes with a ThinkVantage blue button that uploads all your OS and drivers "in times of trouble". Even the after sales service is one of the best.

I think I've set my radar on Y550 series. But a bit slow la. 1.60Ghz only. OK or not? Price is reasonable. Around RM4700.

If you find any lenovo running on core 2 duo featured below which you think is faster than i7 1.60Ghz processor, please let me know. When it comes to computers and laptops I know nuts.

Is this the new white 13" MacBook with the 9400M GeForce graphics card?

You may want to compare the price of this [i.e. RM3980/-] to the 13" UniBody MacBook Pro [i.e. @ RM4099/-] although lower 'speced' than your first choice, you may upgrade to an 8GB DDR3 SDRAM [2X4GB] for about RM2.3k later when you've the bones and when you need the power.

Otherwise, the white 13" with your beefed specs would suffice for non heavy duty photo editing work. The white polycarbonate body is quite rugged to lug about and should last you many many years with proper care [with aftermarket iSkins and all for that extra protection against minor scruff and light scratches].

But I must say the white 13" is more bang for the bones esp if compared to some other brand!

There are a few Mac users in the forum here: http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26079 Give us a shout if you need anything ;) Hoping to see your name in the list soon... Hehehe

Below is what I have set up at home...
