..... got a full body rust job quote from salak selatan for like 3k++. will post details of the shop if the fella does a good job.

Why do you think this car needs a full body work? If it does, why are you buying a rust bucket? Look around, do some search before jump into a money-pit.

Or did you buy the car already?

well, i am pretty sure rust free 2-door-manual e30s come with a higher entry price than this example. the full body work is to anti-rust it and make damn sure i dont have any problems down the line(i know its not a guaranteed thing with anti rust, but some protection is better than none). also i wanna change the color. and since a full respray job is about 2k, might as well tambah another k or 2 and do the rust lo. and yes, i am most probably going to buy the car.

edit: let me just post the math here so i can keep track of my thoughts. not for anyone, just so i have somewhere to put it

current e30 price + roadtax + insurance + runner fee:14500
rust job + color change: 3500-4000
total: 18000-18500

rust free e30 (taken from an auto example on mudah) + roadtax + insurance + runner fee:16500
color change: 2500
total:19000

haha, even if cant tapau, 250+whp is plenty. you know, i thought you were just being indifferent to the noob, but i found out all your replies are like 1 sentence long after i searched your posts. sigh. find typing hard bro?
Sorry bro!

ianhooi, for sure it will not stop at 19k..but since ur budget is 38k, there is no problem at all..but still, it will not stop at 38k heheh..for the rust problem, some says that e30 made after 1987( if im not mistaken) had a minimum issue of rust compared to e30 before 1987, since they had a galvanized body-frame..good luck bro..

You willing to take in a rusted E30 over a rust-free example for possible RM500 difference? The cost could escalate tremendously over the initial budget.

hmm, that was actually the cheapest rust free example i could find. couple of others going for well above 18k (20-35). out of those(only one is manual), not many posted pics of the engine bay, and the ones that did, i can even see some slight oxidation already happening. does rust free mean that the previous owner did the rust job? or does it mean the cars been rust free all its life? thats pretty hard to believe, seeing as how this is a tropical country. and err, if you dont mind could you explain to me whether the rust will possibly come back after this rust job, and what(if anything) can be done now to prevent that? thanks bro.

zzzaaron: no problem at all bro, sorry if the way i said things actually made you react like that. its probably my fault.

is this budget realistic?

Car:15000
Wheels:3000
Custom Titans:3000
RUST REPAIR:5000
m20b25 swap: 6000
Rear disc brake:2000
Miscellaneous unplanned repairs:4000

All for a total cost of 38000! Cheaper than a new saga. :D

From what you listed it may be doable, make sure you have a good gearbox to start with. Good manual gearboxes are difficult to find and expensive. for turbocharging/supercharging advice pm berserkdroid...he has much experience with his E30 but it's on a M42 powerplant. goodluck.

rust free for all it's life is one of a kind and difficult to find such a gem ..even if there is , the price tag would be high or it was a queen garage ....usually rust do happen over the time unless otherwise stated " queen garage " ...best bet is to find a car which is accident free and then start from there ...

rust work depends on how severe are you gonna get into and how heavy is your pocket ... what sort of weld are you gonna use ? Oxy torch OR MIG also tend to get you into a different price tag ...

so eventually it all depends on where you're gonna start off and how much is your budget ...

in my personal opinion ...i'll get a car with a lower price tag ..accident free is a must .... and then will start from here ...

My 2 cento

some best cars rust restorations done could be seen in BG Motorworks ... they have done quite a number and one of it belongs to JonhJ .... get the right person to speak etc MIZHAN, JOHNj, wolverine would lead to less hasle and you'll be on the right track

you'll get an itemize list if you're willing to open a single malt bottle ....straight to the point as such advise don't come in cheap as not many ppl are willing to share such journey ...

Saw a red E30 on the jack rebuilding at BG, is that JohnJ's? Slurpppyy man !

Looking forward to hearing your story bro. All the best with your resto work on the E30.
