that's what most workshops say must leave overnight! anyway, a day after the fix, my car couldn't start!!! found out to be the battery went dead after 4 1/2 years in service :O

Hi, is the coil original BMW part or aftermarket? Was quoted rm 2800 for more or less the same job...

Have heard of Naidu many times but never tried. Assume he does very good job. How about the dashboard, any sound after fixing back? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Hi guys, went to Naidu and he recommended copper coils....any thoughts? Have heard that its less cold but last alot longer.....

Regards

I am changing my coil.. what's the difference between 'local coil' and 'original coil' in term of pricing, workability ?
I have been quoted RM 1350 for those 3 items ie; 'local coil', valve and dryer..

aluminium is less dense than copper.hence it cools down faster but retains the coolness lesser.copper is certainly not "less cold" than alu.it just cools down slower but final effect is the same.copper is heavier than alu but lasts very much longer.
copper retains the cabin heat more than alu.that's why it takes a relatively longer time to cool down compared to alu.

copper is more expensive i think....

personally i would go for copper.....beats having to have the dashboard removed more than once during the ownership of the car

Moots,

On a separate topic, noticed your fuelly is 10.7 L/100 km. When was the last time your reset your "Consumption 1 & 2" at OBC?

herbert,
no lah i have never reset anything using the obc.summore i have lo cluster so i don't think i have consumption 1 & 2 setup.anyway, any reason for re-setting?

Moots,

When you do not reset your "fuel Consumption", what is displayed (fuel consumption) is not accurate. BTW, how did you get your average 10.7/100 km?

Hi guys, thanks to all who shared your info. Had done my car at Naidu's, replaced with copper coil. All in RM 1600. So far, pretty good and dashboard makes no squeks after, good job by Naidu. Only thing is, the copper coil is slightly less cold then my previous aluminium unit but the difference is minor. Hope this one is like what he claimed, can last alot longer then the aluminium ones.

Cheers.

Hi rafamr,

It is hard to tell the difference of local and original coil by the look itself but i am sure the original ones last a lot longer, with a higher price tag of course. Was quoted RM 2k plus by Bavarian Auto just the coil itself.

I believe some local made coils are pretty good quality, probably last for 3-5 years depending on usage? The thing is, quite difficult for us to tell by the look itself. End of day, have to trust the mechanic and try. Just my humble opinion.

Reason I went with copper coil is, price is not too expensive and it seems most opinions say it last longer so am willing to try. The last thing i want is that i have to keep taking the dashboard out every 2 years.

Good luck to you!

Regards

d average consumption is calculated by fuelly based on my input at every refuel ie. distance travelled with a full tank of fuel...........

register lar at fuelly.you can track yr fuel expenses and consumption.good tool this.

I am also using it to monitor my average FC too..mine so far 58 fuel-ups with 10.8l/100km.
