Robbed, stripped, dumped by roadsideA businessman was robbed of his car - a BMW 730i - and left half-naked by the roadside in Shah Alam yesterday. This came in the wake of a similar robbery in Bandar Sunway on Monday. In yesterday's case, four men alighted from a Honda CRV and accosted the 38-year-old businessman as he was walking to his car. They took his car keys, bundled him into the BMW, and drove off.During the 45-minute ride, he was stripped of his clothes. They also took his watch, two handphones, a laptop computer, a digital camera, an ATM card, RM5,000 and some US and Euro currency. The robbers also used the victim's ATM card to withdraw RM3,000.Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fuad Talib said the man was then left by the roadside near an oil palm plantation in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam, clad only in his underwear.Police are investigating if the four men were the same people who robbed a company manager of his BMW 530i car and belongings on Monday. The company manager had been tailed by the robbers to his office in Jalan PJS 11/8, Bandar Sunway. They assaulted him and robbed him of his money, credit cards, a laptop and two cellphones. He was bundled into his car and taken to Klang, where they withdrew money using his ATM card before dumping him in his underwear by the roadside in Bukit Raja, Klang.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------© Copyright 2004 The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad. The STAR's version:

Man left naked and robbed of BMW

PETALING JAYA: In a second abduction-cum-robbery incident within a week, a businessman was left naked in an oil palm estate in Shah Alam by five armed men.

The 38-year-old man from Puchong Jaya was leaving a cafe in his BMW car in Bandar Puteri Puchong when a blue Honda CRV stopped in front of him at about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

Four men, two armed with parangs, alighted and forced the businessman, an owner of a chemical product distributing company, into the back seat of his vehicle. They drove to Puncak Alam where they forced the businessman to strip.

After taking the victim's laptop, digital camera, and watch worth about RM15,000, they forced the man to withdraw RM5,500 using his credit cards, before escaping in his car.

BMW will soon be offering the latest accessories to the new 7 and 5 series....

To complement its iDrive, runflat tyres, active steering, etc, etc, customers will now have the option of speccing their car to come with... an armed bodyguard.....

As usual customers can specify a colour option of the bodyguard uniform to match their interior trim. A choice of jungle camouflage green, corporate beige, and commando black will be available. Chosen carefully, the bodyguard colour scheme can either meld seamlessly with the interior and be hardly noticable for the stealth factor, or stand out in sharp contrast to deter by way of visual warning.

The bodyguard only needs to be serviced three times a day, which will be hard for some customers to get used to, compared to the current service interval of 10,000 and 20,000 km. However, the maintenance cost will be peanuts, and maybe some nasi lemak to go along with those peanuts, compared to the usual maintenance costs, so the impact to the customer wallet will be minimised... which is not bad, considering the alternative cost of not choosing this option, which is not just the wallet, but your ATM card, your cash, and your clothes as well...

Gheez....! What kind of world do we live in if we can't flaunt our wealth in peace...?

I guess it's time for BMW to draw on their James Bond experience to come out with high tech anti-car jacking devices.

Thinking of an alternate scenario.

The next time you see a guy coming out of a flashy new bimmer, pls do not under any circumstances approach him abruptly.
(I don't know if any forummer have this habit; you know, of asking strangers where they get that sports rim etc-etc)

He may just whip out an automatic and empty its contents into you. You know, this kind of news can make people really jittery.

Hahahahaha!! OK, it's not funny and it could happen!

This is happening way too often. I think it's time the Polis walk the talk and get down to hunting these car-jackers down. Use the press, use the public, do it LOUD. Does the BMW Club need to go out on a public rally to get their attention?!

this is a demand and supply situation. No one wants to go and steal a car unless there is a demand. Go AFTER the demand, pls, domestic and overseas. If overseas, how did it get past? if local, it could be chop shops or syndicates using for organized crime.

Let's all not contribute to the statistic. Be safe. Which is why I stay home most of the time. :(

From stats, it appears that they're after the newer model BMWs. but still, it's scary man!

All these could eventually lead to drop in BMW sales, like for instance, I know from a salesman that Toyota Harriers, Honda CRVs, Streams are hot items and quite a few owners have sold these cars for simpler and less hijack-prone second hand models. All these out of fear for their loved ones, as most of the Harriers, CRVs are driven by their wifes. Even comprehensive insurance cover is hard to come by these days for these models. Best of all, they can sell their RM 250k harrier for used Honda Accord or new Waja.

Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) has detailed stats on models most commonly hijacked or stolen, and I guess now it'll be BMWs somewhere at the top of the list.

What the F*** is happening ah??

I don't think it is sensible to hijack a brand new bimmer and strip it apart. As far as distribution is concerned, there have been many discussions on the unscruplousness of some second hand dealers. As far as they are concerned, as soon as the car has passed on to the buyer, they already got their money. Whatever happen after that, they don't give a damn.

And god knows there are people who like to drive cars they can't afford. As long as it is a good bargain, anything goes.

My other worry is that it may be the gang is not just targeting the car but the owner as well. I mean why go to the trouble of kidnapping the driver just to get a couple extra grand from the ATM when you already got a half mil car.

The gang is getting way too cocky. If the police does not come up with something soon, maybe somebody else needs to do something.

Anyone interested in setting up an armed security agency?

Cool.

we'll use someone's E65 as a bait, put it in some notorious carpark..

we'll wait in ours...
when you see the bastards, each of us take turns on steam roll over them
i think crimes would be reduced significantly. at least less BMWs would be targeted knowing there's a BMW Punisher roaming the streets..

cheers
Tom

the police are in on it...how else can these thieves get away? there's nothing much that can be done...this is the country we live in and i don't see it changing anytime soon...best thing to do is not to flaunt and be low profile and alert at the same time...not much else can be done.

last 2 weeks, i saw a car being robbed in a car wash. the owner drove into the car wash and pass the key to the car wash guy. then he walked to the mamak shop next door. two men went into the car wash and demand for the car key. then they drove off.
the lucky thing is, the owner was away, so noboby got hurt. but the sad thing is, he may have problem to claim insurance. my friend lost his harrier almost same way and could not claim insurance due to negligence.
so guys, be careful when sending your car for washing.

Hey, just curious, it never mentioned which version got stolen. Was it the E65? Simple dreadful looking at the crime rates nowadays. Sheesh.
