A fren requested me a technical spec for my car since he was interested to learn more about this car...accidentally found this info....thought might be benificial to those who still cofuse.Wheels Tyre dimensions front 225/40 R 18 Tyre dimensions rear 255/35 R 18 Wheel dimensions front 8 J x 18 alloy Wheel dimensions rear 8.5 J x 18 alloy Engine Cylinders/valves 6/4 Capacity in ccm 2,497 Stroke/bore in mm 78.8/82.0 Max. power (bhp@rpm) 218/6,500 Max. torque in Nm rpm 250/2,750 Power-to-weight ratio (EU) in kg/bhp 6.7 Weight in kg Unladen weight EU 1,460 Maximum permissible weight 1,980 Permitted load 520 Permitted axle load front/rear 935/1,080 Unladen weight: the figure quoted includes a 90 per cent tank filling, 68 kg for the driver and 7 kg for luggage. Unladen weight applies to vehicles with standard equipment. Optional equipment may increase this figure.Max. output: the petrol engines of the BMW 3 Series Sedan are designed for RON 98 fuel. The engines may be run on RON 95 or RON 91 fuel (335i: not less than RON 95) with a decrease in engine power.

Yup, all these info are from the brochures. Even E46 6 cylinders Sedan and Coupe are designed for RON 98.

For 4 cylinders, RON 97 is good enough as it was designed for RON 95.

V-Power in Malaysia is RON97. We don't have anything higher than RON97 here.

i dun think there is a clear information to confirm that V-power here is RON97 or RON 98...one can assume that since V-power is some sort of additive boosted fuel to the normal 97, they think its base comes from the normal 97...one can also assume that since the V-power is imported from Singapore whose V-power supply is RON98, the V-power here is of the same type which is RON98...

The thing is, as pointed out by several posts I've seen in various forums, is why doesn't Shell claim V-Power has a higher RON rating than 97, if that is indeed true? It would definitely be a marketing boost if they did it. The only reason I can think of why they don't claim it is because it isn't higher than 97, and by admitting it, would only drive customers away from V-Power and towards normal RON97 or even 95.

there is also a possibility that the don't claim that it is RON98 because that would risks the fuel being unsubsidised and instead being taxed...claiming that it is RON 97 would entitled the base fuel to be 'subsidised'...

all i know is that the base fuel for the V-power is entirely different than the RON97 or RON95 we have here and the RON is between 97 and 98...for RON 97 the tolerance of the octane can be within 96 and 97...same goes for RON95...:top:

I found a post in a forum where the author quoted from a Shell brochure taken from a JB petrol station:

"Shell V-Power Racing has a minimum value of RON 97. However, octane quality is only ONE of the many qualities associated with power and engine efficiency.

Besides having the properties designated by its RON rating, Shell V-Power Racing is a high performance fuel with a specially engineered fuel formulation designed to improve responsiveness, acceleration, and power. Its Friction Modifier Technology (FMT), is the exact same technology used by Ferrari's F1 team -- a proud result of 60 years of Shell's research and technical partnership with Ferrari.

Shell also ensures careful selection of the base fuel components used for Shell V-Power Racing to increase combustion efficiency, and incorporates other important fuel additives that clean and remove existing deposits from the engine."

I thought V-Power is not subsidized anyway? Since V-Power is not restricted for sale to foreigners at border petrol stations like the other fuels are.

subsidies in terms of tax exemption...subsidy can be in any form...

actually there is no subsidy as when we buy our car we are basically taxed to pay for the so called subsidies... so mana a subsidi???:stupid: hahaha

That's so true. The amount we paid on taxes is enough to subsidize our fuel for years and years.. I'm guessing at least one car generation (for heavy users) or even two generations (for light users).

Another fact of life in boleh-land... so sad.

Yeah, it would be nice to buy cars without having to pay duties. But there's really no free lunch anywhere. 18 Feb 2010 average pump prices of Unleaded95 per litre:

USA - RM2.37
UK - RM5.90
Germany, France, Italy - RM6.05
Norway, Holland - RM7.00

Would we really prefer to swipe RM300+ on our credit cards to pump 50 litres of gas?

when u make such comparison then it makes sense to compare also the income per capita in those countries...if not paying for rm0.50 per litre of fuel which is cheap for some countries but is not even affordable for countries which ppl only earn on average rm300 per month...

Okay... ULG 95 at various dates in Jan and Feb:

Indonesia - RM2.56
Vietnam (ULG 92) - RM3.03
Sri Lanka (ULG 90) - RM3.44
Bangladesh - RM3.64
India - RM3.68

We still have the cheapest gasoline in Asia, possibly the world.

BTW, don't get me wrong, I'm not a supporter of cheap gasoline prices. I think the subsidy should be removed, and that we go to market prices like the rest of non-oil Asia. In about 3 years, we become a net oil importing nation. What does that mean? It means our oil wealth days are just about over.

And what do we have to show for 4 decades of oil wealth? City roads that are so pock-marked it's embarrassing. Third world water supply through rusty pipes. Kapcais breaking the law with impunity. Infrastructure that falls apart almost immediately on completion.

What else do do have? Oh yeah...the world's 4th tallest building, a world class sailing regatta, a F1 car that's 4s off the pace, and...AN ASTRONAUT! How usefull!
