So far i havent encounter any engine stalled while driving yet.
only happen once in a while when cold start..

Pls share your solution ya, as I read it's a common issue for n42/46

guys a have a new issue now..when i start my car, it started but there is smoke cuming from the engine and smells like somthing burned..i have no idea what to do now..scared to drive to the shop..can anyone advice me on this please?

check on the driver side for oil spillage, there is a high chance that the engine cover gasket is harden and oil is seeping out and touching the exhaust pipes. the will cause the oil burning smell.

sakthian,

You seems to have quite a number of engine issues with your car. Where are you located...KL or PJ? Best solution is to send your car to one of our trusted BMW specialist workshops and have a complete check on your engine and other mechanical parts.

hye herbet..im stuck at ipoh now..thats the problem..here got not much bmw specialist. do u know any shop that you can recommend?

ok jarance..but it won be a any problem right if i drive my car?

just confirm that the burning smell is from the oil.

you can pull out one of the ignition coil n check whether there is oil there as well.

if there are oil, just wipe off the oil n you are good to go to your normal workshop.

Ask the mechanic to also check your crankcase ventilation hoses and filters. These plastic hoses are also another common problem as they become brittle with age and will leak air into your intake system, giving you a low MAF reading, hence hard to start.

on the N42/46 engine there is a brake vaccum boost pump at the back of the engine. This tends to leak oil onto the exhust manifold. Im not sure if you can find the o-ring that seals the unit as I couldnt find that as a separate part number. However Im sure you can get it replaced. I just replaced the whole unit.

If its not the above then the valve cover gasket is the most likely cause of the leak.

I just DIY the 2 orings in the brake vacuum boost pump (1 big and 1 small), with total cost of about RM12 with RM45 for the sealant. total cost RM 57, about 15AUD? :) should have asked us, we could ahve couried to u...

Hey bro where did you get the larger O-ring ? I got the smaller one but couldnt get an OEM part number for the larger one. Im in Malaysia for the next 2 weeks, I dont mind getting the larger O-ring and fixing the pump that I removed and keep as a back up :)
Let me know please.

Also, is there anyone you can recommend for replacing Control arms on the X5 suspension in KL (near Ukay Heights is ideal but not too fussed as long as they are really good) or even Kuantan? Thanks again! :)
