Hi everyone, I am new here. I bought a 1966 NK 2000 a couple of months ago. I am starting the long journey of getting the car restored. The task is made more difficult by the fact that I am working overseas at the moment. My brother is helping me but I have to source the parts. The car is in fair condition, road tax is valid and still drivable. First order of work was to fix the steering. I appreciate any tips on where to get parts locally if available. I have spoken to Bomin in KL. I looking particularly for the windshield and window rubber gaskets.Cheers

hello & welcome.. a nice piece of automotive history you have there. all the best in bringing her to former glory!

Wala wei an European NK2000!

Which part of obersea you go?

If you'r in German or UK .. then you might be able to source some parts there.

I recommend you join this forum: http://www.nkbmw.com/board/

Cheers!

I am working near Malaysia. I have gone on the nkbmw board to look but they are not very active. I have ordered some parts from Wallot Nesch in Germany. Just my luck, the Euro is gaining strength at the moment. I don't know any BMW mechanic in Kelantan. Like to fix an oil leak, I think it is in the headgasket. After that she will go into the body and paint shop.

Wow ! a rare classic indeed..!
Hats off to you for owning such a car, hope you can jaga your car nicely and dont let it rot in the garage..
I myself own a classic bmw, and i know how tough it is to maintain due to scarecity of parts.

Thanks. I intend to restore it as mcuh as I can. You are right, parts are difficult to come by.

You can get parts from Auto Bavaria, Ingress or Sapura. Go to www.realoem.com or bmwfans.info and look for the part number of the parts that you need. Then go to any of those three dealers and ask them to order for you. If the part number is not in their system, they can create it and order it for you. I usually go to Auto Bavaria Glennmarie.

Tamade7, Thanks for the information, I will check ou those sites.

You are always welcome bro. Many times those independent parts dealer hesitate to make special order of old parts. I have been through this with my e36 coupe (e36 coupe is not that old and yet they are not very helpful) and finally decided to go to the authorized dealer. Nothing that you can't get there; as long as it is bmw.

i am also from kelate..i got bmw 2002... already more then 1 year to restore the car...so hard to get engine spare part....susah2 masuk e30 engine..settle problem..but not orignal and market price down.....my friend suggest go to auto bavaria..they can order items need....but ready moneylaaa....

Hi Bmw2002kb

Glad to hear there is BMW 2002 in Kelantan. I am in KB, where are you located? What year is your car? I had a chance to buy a 2002 many years ago but didn't, sayang. The car belonged to a mechanic in Tanjoung Mas, near the airport. At that time, use of Internet was not as widespread, buying parts would have been even harder.

Your are right parts are very susah to get. I have made more purchases from Wallot Nesch in Germany, has to pay 20% import duty. I found a seal from my rear windshield from a guy in Brisbane, Australia. Luckily I have a firend there, he picked it up and couriered it to me. Some parts are no longer produced so have to find used ones or NOS. What did you do with your original engine?

Regards,

Bro 66,

How much for the rear windshield?
I got the front one ... here in Malaysia... check out ebay ... The guy still have a few pieces left.
Can you get the engine mounting?

Max,

I got the rear windshield seal on Aussie ebay. Price was AUD $99 + $49 for courier service. Pick up & shipping was by my friend, I don't know what the guy/shop will charge. Note that this is OEM ,not original. I bought the front seal from WN in Germany, about Euro 75 before shipping and import tax. I have not sourced for engine mountings so I dont know if they are available or what they cost. Check out WN (Wallot & Nesch), they are very efficient, got my order in one week ( UPS airfreight).

I am looking for seals for the windows, let me know if you know of a source. Doors seals cost a bomb about Euro 200/ea X 4 and boot seal is Euro 245 all from WN. I am looking for alternatives. That is more than RM5K for 5 seals, not a good return for investment, IMHO.

I found a mechanic and now looking for a body man. I plan to take the engine out for repair while the body work and painting is being done.

I am trying to repair the original blaupunkt radio and the clock ( running slow).

Cheers.

Bro BMW 2002,

I have been on holiday with my parents. My uncle lives in Tanjung Mas. I can not remember the plate number of the 2002 that I missed the opportunity to buy, this was more than 15 years ago! Congrats to you for finding one. What a coincidence, your car is from Tanjung Mas? May it is the one I did not buy?

My parents live in KB. My car is still waiting for the body shop man to confirm when he can do the work, I hope to start soon.

I may be back in KB in Sept, I will try to come see your car then. Here are a few more photos of my car. Bumpers have been removed for rechroming

Cheers

Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri greetings to all our Muslim members. I am still sourcing parts mostly on ebay. Latest purchases includes:

1. Used steering wheel ( the horn ring on my car is broken and cannot be welded back because it is an alloy).
2. Interior light (used)
3. Hoses for cooling system (new)
4. Water distributor(new)
5. Engine gasket set (new)
6. Air filter console (used)
7. Owners manual (used)

I found a used pair of front turn signal covers on German ebay, but the seller lost the shipment, fortunately he refunded my money. I am still searching for these, I have new rear ones but the front ones are no longer in stock.

If anyone out there has a Solex 36-40 PDSI carburetor for sale please PM me. The previous owner had replaced the original carburetor and air filter console. I would like to restore to the original carburetor. Car will go into the shop after Raya, the mechanic promised! Anyone who know a radio repairman who can repair a vintage Blaupunkt car radio, please let me know. Mine is real heavy, must be full of the old fashioned transistors.

Attached are a few more "before" photos.

Cheers
