Hi all,Own a humble little 99' e46 m43 (for abt a month++). Mileage : will touch 100K km within a few days . Since purchase, done some servicing (oil and some cooling system components)My Q is : Is it normal for the yellow engine oil level telltale light to come on for about 5-6 seconds EACH time the engine is switched on? What happens is when u start up the engine, everything is normal for about 5-6 seconds also, then the yellow engine oil level light comes on for about 5-6 seconds, then everything is back to normal again...I know its the engine oil level that needs checking, and i've done that and am absolutely sure that its at the correct level. Wanna know if this is normal (to be on the safe side).Cheers and Thanx.

i never experienced this on n42. but if your light goes off guess it's ok lah.

maybe the oil need to mix mix abit before the sensor pick it up.

hi minivan, i m experiencing exactly the same situation as you... the engine oil warning lamp lights for a few seconds after starting and then goes away after that.. it just started a few days ago.. I have checked my engine oil level & it is within normal limits.. and i have another 18000km before my next service.. Wonder if any sifus here could help us with this baffling problem?

The light is kinda irritating but a bit worrying also right Zee77?? ... can anybody shed a bit more light on this?

N42 engine, on E46 are prone to sludge problems, Dont asked me why? This is what i've been told by a realiable sources. The sludge will somehow effects the sensors. Try changing the oil more often even before regular 20k interval. Flushed the engine first. Good luck trying...let us know if it works ok. Anyway no harm changing oil...it's even better for your engine in the long run. chiers..mate.

I've just changed the engine oil recently Famy.. Another 18K km to go before next service.. Must be totally nuts to be changing the oil so frequently.. Well, minivan, i agree with you... it's just totally irritating & worrying.. any other suggestions from sifus out there?

if it is a sludge problem just take it to your friendly mech and get him to check if there's too much builup in the engine.. it may require an experienced pro to resolve it. or it may just be a 50 ringgit sensor.

get it checked prom a pro.
