Hi X experts,I owned an X5-E53-3.0-UK Spec-2004. Recently engine warning light (yellow) keep lighten. I drove my x5 and run a diagnostic. Found out o2 sensor malfunctions. Before I want to change it, may I know the reason being of the o2 sensor can go malfunctions. I did ask around and read in beemer forum, it probably cause by parts problem or petrol. What is the best petrol recommended for x5 (ron95 or ron97).I appreciate any advice given to me.CheersHafiz

Many items can lead to the error shown there. Sometimes its not even the o2 sensor. Maybe fuel trim leak (air leak) or something. Could also be CCV failing.

Anyway, the problem should not be caused by petrol type. If it is indeed o2 sensor maybe its time to change it anyway.

The lifespan of the O2 sensor is about 100k km.

What its your mileage and when was the last time you change it.

Hi Haywire,

Thanks for your reply. From the diagnostics result, it is confirmed o2 sensor faulty. Anyway, i being told by the mechanic, it is better to use RON97 because it make your engine cleaner and quite. If ron95, which is the best petrol brand should i use?

Hi Jarance,
thanks for your reply. My millage is in miles, as to date is 84530 which = to 135,000 km. I bough this car from UK, and from all the service maintenance records from BMW in the UK, zero record showing the o2 sensors been changed. Probably it is time to change it.

Bro even the new F10 can use RON95 with no problems.
