If u are racing kaki, then don't buy 523i..unless u do supercharger or ECU remap.

Of course power wise, 528i will anytime outperform a 523i. It goes w/o saying. But if $$$ isn't a issue & if you would someday think of doing an overhaul (for engine restoration sake), there are a couple of "hantus" than can be done to a modest 523i to deserve the calling "a wolf in a sheep's clothing". In the end, the idea is to continue paying the roadtax of a 2.5cc with extra OOOMPH!!!:top:

Then again, you get quite a number or goodies in a 528i that comes as standard accesories. As for me, engine capacity isn't much of an issue. As long as it's a minimum of 2.5cc straight 6, it's fine for me.

If you want my advise on buying a used car, take a read at post #56:

Doing an overhaul to any engine restores the potential from that old tired engine. Think about it, all those carbons stuck up your chamber, all over your pistons & valves, removing those traces of carbon wouldn't it provide a smoother much easier breathing engine? I thought so...:)

One thing's for sure, you'll feel the engine is a lot lighter and responsive. It'll even be more drastic if you've done some internal mods to it. haha...hantu at work! :top:

Here's how it works.

You wanna restore the tired's engine's potential. You do an overhaul.
Now that the engine is totally stripped, you think might as well plant in some DEVIL INSIDE, since after all you don't always strip an engine now do we.

One thing leads to another, and in the end you burn a big hole in the pocket (if you chose this path and not just a standard overhaul)...but satisfaction guaranteed if by all means you do it within a moderate window frame. Just don't over do it and kill it!

mine has a nikasil problem with the top replaced due to overheating 4 years ago by the previous owner and
modified to provide slightly more power. 523I power is adequate for me.

Mine dun have blind (dun fancy it as it would have required to be replace now) but has MF steering, cruise control, etc. Pretty much stock. Having either one, you may require to set some money apart to replace worn parts.
