Hi all, like to ask what can be the caused for the "Trans Failsafe Prog" error ? i was driving using the autocruise like normal yesterday on the highway and suddenly the error came up on my OBD.the autocrise disable itself but the car still drive/brake like normal. no acceleration lagging or limited gears encountered.i have searched thru the forum and found out my ride does not have the common symptoms (limited gear/lagging acceleration) of other forummer that encounter this error.may i know is there anything else i should be worry about ?thanks guys!

try this cheap method. Shut off your car overnight and try it in the morning. See if it still shows the message.

Else just go in to a workshop and run a fault code check and erase.

this happen to my car before. mine show this because my air intake hose lose. so the air intake sensor and the actual air flow is different. you need to disconnect the battery for at least 15min then put it back, the massage will del. if the message show again then you have to bring to the machanic shop to check.

Bro,

Try checking your rear abs sensor whether it's functioning or not. I could not remember left or right. One side controls your auto cruise, another controls your speedo meter reading. This what my mechanic told me before.

bad news..my car refuse to start at all this morning! abs and traction control light came up intermittently..

@ bimmerholic - tried that before..

@ rizal - just changed my front right wheel sensor last month, shudnt be that problem..

refuse to start? battery? this could be the cause too because when there's not enough juice to the batt, the ECU starts behaving wierdly.
Once you get it started, go to a workshop and diagnose whatever problem you have.

I had that Trans Failsafe light came on once but it was due to a speed sensor malfunction. The car still drives okay when the light came on as well.

IC...but the auto cruise function controls by the rear sensor..not the front which you have replaced..correct me if I'm wrong sifus??

problem solved. found out battery not enough juice, ecu went haywired. changed battery-error gone. affan - spot on mate!

encounter this error again few days ago. but nothing weird happen while driving, everything seems fine. what could be the issue?
battery, speed sensor, brake sensor, crankshaft sensor all have been replaced. Gearbox faulty?

Recently encountered this issue more frequently. I used to go into Trans failsafe prog with limited gear (4th gear) once or twice before. Immediately shut the engine for a few seconds and restarted. Everything went well after that.

Last happened to me on the weekend, did the shutdown and restart and was OK. Was on my way to the mechanic to get scanned for faults on a GT1 and then the result shows "Gear Monitoring". I asked my mechanic and he said normally with this issue it means something is not right on the gearbox and the computer monitors something weird but did not say what.

I have described to him some jerking when I floor the throttle pedal on 1st gear. He tested and it's more obvious now compared to few months ago. He suspected some balls in the gearbox are worn out and need replacing. Worst case is replacing a gearbox I guess.

Psykit,

The symptoms that you have stated above are indicatons that insufficient pressure is going into torque converter, hence the jerking when on full throttle. Most likely is a de-graded seal at the AFT pump. Next symptom will be ATF oil leaking/splilling out from your GB when full throttle or rev to red line.

Thanks Herbert for sharing. Do you think that the damage is only at the seal and it can be replaced? Or it has to be replaced as a set together with something else? Do you have any idea how much it will cost?

The ATF pump oil seal is rather cheap, less than RM150. However to get access to the seal involve removal of exhaust mid & end portion and complete GB. Since the GB is removed, it would be wise to service the valve body plus replace the flywheel seal. You need to check with your workshop on the pricing.
