hi guys,Would like to check if anyone have problem with a wind noise from the driver side window. normal drive at city area is fine but when you drive at highway speeds it almost sounds like the window is slightly open but it's close..hahaha... It's coming from the front door panel/window area. I have no idea if it's the window or door seal. OR it may just be the normal sound of the car. Or is't because i tinted the window? any input or idea about this? Thanks.

I want to die. This new e90lci 320d m sport also has this wind noise coming from de a pillars/roof. Consistently produced at 140km/hr. this is truly el-sucky. From a bmw?? Gotta be freaking kidding me! Sounds like a banshee. The sort of sound u get from blowing into the edge of a taut piece of film or sum thing.

had similar issue with my 320d. quill sc had the rubber sealing for both my driver & passenger door changed.
fixed it after replacement of the rubber.

why Quill SC claimed this as normal when i repprt last time??/ why why....i also want to change the rubber sealing...

Mine also had that problem but it seems that it only happens at certain circumstances such as after a rain where there are water around the side mirror.

Otherwise its ok....weird....

Hi guys... my 320d has the same problem. Initially when received the car, it was the front wind screen giving a high pitch zinging noise above 120km. Got that fixed as they explained by re-gluing the screen. After the fixing, then I noticed the bad wind noise coming from the side mirror area. More apparent above 130-140kmh. Any idea? My e46 doesn't have this turbulence noise. No time yet to send for checking since I am overseas..

i believe it is as the same issue with mine. had quill fixed mine during my 1st service.
since then no more whistling sound at 13-140kmh
Ref #4

Thanks namidub. Will send for fixing once I am back. I thought it came from bad aero design side mirrors.

Hi all. I drove at 140 again today. Stuck my face near the windscreen and finally localized the sound! It's coming from de windscreen near the rear view mirror (right in the centre). The windscreen was vibrating and I could stop it by pressing hard on it and somewhat changing de harmonics. I guess it's the rubber that mounts the windscreen that is causing this. Prolly poorly mounted. CKD indeed. Will goto quill for de fix. Thx guys.

Btw... I already whacked the front bumper twice over curb stops. It's not pretty! The sensor just wouldn't pick up the stops...

whistle or vibration from windscreen
by Jules59 » Mon, 24 Oct 2011 23:30:02 UTC

Recently had the windscreen replaced and took the car up the motorway for the first time since the repair at the weekend.
Every time I reached a certain high speed Id got a loud whistle/vibration which appears to come from the upper windscreen area near the mirror. Initially I thought the windscreen must be leaking air but the sound didnt fade in and out like I'd expect with turbulent air but started and stopped suddenly. Something resonating I thought.
I could only liken it to the sound of a piece of card or plastic being placed against a grinding wheel - sudden, loud and shrill. I pressed and pulled bits of trim around the mirror and found pressure on the cable from the window sensor array seemed to stop it.
Im not sure if the sound was coming from something inside the sensor array or from something behind the light unit in the roof lining where the cable heads off towards.

Any comments ?

How do I get the roof light unit down to check behind it - I cant see any screws to undo.

Check the window screen rubber seal.Probably popping out when you reach a certain speed.

I got this problem too with mine. The wind noise is too much at speed of 140km/h and above. Sounds like my previous car,Accord. Will highlight it next time i visit quill.

Had the wind noise problem like over a year ago on my 325. Its like there is a gap around the driver's door. The kind of sound you get if the door not properly shut.
So I suspected the seals not sealing properly.
I've bought one of those transparent pvc tube / hose , very small sections, around 5 - 6mm dia from ACE.
Insert and slide them under the existing door seal all around for extra pressure / support, hence lifting the seal slightly.
Seems to work since.

Yes as described by Mun, that is the kind of wind noise that I have with my car around the side mirror or door side... as if the door is not shut or window is not up properly. So I guess I have to send the car back for checking the seal...
