Guys,Recently when the car is started, there is white smoke which lasts for 2-3 minutes but not very obvious. Engine sound, feel, everything is normal...but is this a sign of something starting to go wrong? I had this once in a while before on cold mornings but right now my dad is taking care of it and informed me about this.

Yes bro, engine oil level is checked and is fine. Is this symptom normally because of under filled or over filled?

Sign of possible worn head gasket, as coolant sipping in to the combustion chamber.

Same prob as mine, worn head gasket, few leaks at head and coolant level drop every km.. luckily M20 gasket just rm20 hehe.. Prob solved :top:

Or try to buy the kit shown in this video to test if your head gasket needs replacing before opening up the engine coz its expensive

ehh this is mechanic 101 lah... bro its just the valve seals.. the seals are worn and shrunk a little. therefore when starting in the morning before the seals expand to fill the gaps, some oil seeps through. thats all. can be solved without doing a top overhaul. for bimmers, anything wrong with head gasket.. u dah sangkut tepi jalan long time.

no need panic lah.. what lah head gasket all.. buat heart attack saja!

Lol cheers bro, I'll ask my mech about this...because the car is handling fine, I just did a 1000km drive recently from Johor-KL-Johor with no issues. So I'm suspecting it's something quite minor like you mentioned.

Glad to hear that bro...care to share fuel consumption for the Johor-KL-Johor trip?

Sure thing, needle was just below the 20 mark, and I filled up rm60 at BHP 95, and rm60 again at BHP 95 in Subang before hitting the highway. Did some city driving (maybe about 30-40km) within Subang and when I reached my destination in Johor, needle was halfway between the 0 and 20 mark. So I estimate altogether my expenditure was about rm150 for fuel which I feel is acceptable.

Oh and the 1000km drive I mentioned in the earlier post includes my distance since I returned to Msia.

When they did the overhaul for they fixed the valve seals as well

did u see them changed the seals?? because a lot of mechanics keep the extra parts as long as it is working at that time. and if they did not fit it properly, it can scratch and be useless.

Yes they changed becoz it was the valve seals that caused the white smoke from the exhaust
