hi all,
Im quite new around...lady driver from Bdr Baru Bangi, just got my e60 2004 Japan spec, white colour m5 mooded.very happy with it but just realize the vibrating steering at the speed of 120kmh.... balancing or rim prob?sedey loo. Thanks

if your steering vibrate at 120km/h......normally cause by bushing worn out or lower arm worn out..

i just change bushing & lower arm this week. the mechanic jack my car up & ask me to shake my wheel, i saw my wheel shake at least 5mm...crazy!!!

de tyre shop said they will recalibrate their balancing machine and redo the balancing on my wheels.. hope this works otherwise have to check the bushings and arms...

Problem solved.I went to a tyre shop at chan sow lin suggested by my mech today,3 of my tyres got bengkak so Ive change all 4 tyres +chamber n cone works costed me 3k, now Im very3 happy...

balancing machine recalibrated but stil does not completely solve the problem...will send to AB to check on bushings and lower arms since still under service inclusive...

Hi Bro grossypinnocchio ,

I know your posting is > 2 years old now but thought of asking you 2 questions on this shop you have recommended for alignment:
1) May I know how much they charged you for alignment and balancing?
2) Is this shop still around/open?

I recently replaced 2 front tires (RM1,150/piece/Dunlop Sports Maxx TT) and did balancing(Free)/alignment(RM55) (and chamber readjust (RM35) for front left tire) with Lim Tyre in SS2. 2 days later, I have been getting the Active Steering Inactive/Faulty issue. Brought it to AB (got a friend there to do calibration/test/error reset) but still same issue. He said SZL (steering column switch unit needs replacing @ RM2k!!!). Brought it to Quill (another friend checked there and said maybe need to do alignment/balancing with BMW @ RM500++!!!!)... Then brought it Ah Wai (BM World Desa Tun Razak). He did check with Autologic tool and reset and then proceeded to update the Active Steering, DTC, ABS, with latest software update & recalibrate @RM400 but still cannot solve. He said need to change the SZL (as recommended by my AB friend).... Lucky Ah Wai said I can kaw tim the RM400 with software update the next time I come there (so not all rugi)...

Now I am confused. Somehow, could the alignment/chamber readjustment done by Lim Tayar SS2 have caused an issue which is causing this error? I am thinking of doing another set or alignment with someone who has the GT1 tools to recalibrate.. I don't think it's such a coincidence that the SZL has suddenly become faulty 2 days right after alignment...

What do you guys think? Thought of getting some opinion from others as well...

Bro Princevick,I was warned that the UDMs with integral active steering should do the alignments at BMW service centers because BMW has the data for each car. This is to avoid incidence like what you had.To do alignments outside to me is taking too much risk,so better be safe than sorry..

@Princevick, could it be a co-incidence that the active steering module happens to be faulty just after you did the alignment? Logically, active steering shouldn't have much to do with tyre alignments.

Logically, active steering have much to do with tyre alignments because alignments are part of steering experience and certainly any input to the alignments will risked affecting the active steering.IMHO it is too much to be a coincidence

@aoch88,You are right, silly me to assume the active steering is similar to integral active steering like in F10s.get mix up bro

I recoomend this tayar shop in Old town PJ. They are damn good and i have been sending my E60 to them for the past years and also all my cars (roughly 10 yrs now) and have no complains. They are called Tayar Ria...they do stuff for Mercedes as well and the best part of it...they dont cut throat! Try them, the service is good!

Are the tyres/rims the same size as the original ones that came with the car, if yes then pressure for RFTs and non RFTs are the same to be used. It's written on the door pillar.

Hi bros,

Hmmm... I had no choice but I had to buy a new switch unit steering column (SZL) and then program and code it to my car. That has solved the problem.. :) *sigh* What to do.. If meant to kena then will kena la.. hahaha.. Our cars are so damn sensitive. :)
