hirecently when i was buying parts for my e39,the guy at the shop checked my chassis number and told me that the car was manufactured in 1998.however on the jpj registration card (geran) it is stated as 1997.i then checked at another shop and they said that it is 1998.how can this be? anybody know how to check the real year of manufacture? could jpj be wrong? if they are wrong, could i ever ask them to correct the mistake?it'll be nice to know that she's a year younger...any help would be appreciated

hi
recently when i was buying parts for my e39,the guy at the shop checked my chassis number and told me that the car was manufactured in 1998.

how can this be? anybody know how to check the real year of manufacture? could jpj be wrong? if they are wrong, could i ever ask them to correct the mistake?

it'll be nice to know that she's a year younger...
any help would be appreciated
may be this car manufature in End 97

thanks guys
i've check the sites given by randy..thanks..
and it is a 1998 model..manufactured in August 1998..
hmmm..how do i prove this to jpj?

m42,

It looks like the car dealer declared the wrong date of manufacture to avoid paying high import tax.

so this is a case of under-declared tax la ni..
if i complain to jpj..i might risk having to pay the unpaid taxes or get my car confiscated..huhu..dangerous man..
or i might ask them to close one eye..hmm..

Did you buy your car new?

To me, there is no reason to complaint, perhaps a little satisfaction knowing your car is younger than its registered age.

Its would be worse to find out your car was manufactured in 1997, but stated as 1998 on your car grant. And this has happened to a few forumers here.

no it wasn't new..third owner in msia i suppose..just got it actually..
yeah maybe no need to complain..actually i was thinking of its resale value when i want to sell it on.. if i could change the year to 1998..maybe i'll get better value for the car..
anyway..better than having a newer date on the grant for an older car..

Let me tell you that any changes to the registration card, the cost will be borne by the owner even though it is not your fault. Consider another scenario: if the bank loses your registration card (while the card is still in the bank's possession) the same thing applies. The worst part is that the owner himself/herself is the one who will be making the police report. It happened to me. Strange but true.
