What is the best engine oil for M54 engine ?

Hi therei'm driving 325ci SMG 8/2002 model with M54 engine.Need some assistance in determining type of motor engine.What is the best engine oil that i should use...previously i'm using Mobil1 fully synthetic. Need to know the folowing1. fully synthetic engine oil Brand ?2. grades of motor oil?thanxryan

I drive a 2003 330Ci and I follow the manual, which reccomends Mobil 1 5W-50. I reckon that it might be the same for your car as well. I'm not certain if it's the best but so far so good.

I use PETRONAS Syntium 5000 0w 40 fully syn ..... does wonders for your car....

Try 5W30 or 5W50 as Bix recommend. Try to do a search in the forum, I think things like "best engine oil to use" have been discussed before. To know which brand carries the 5W50 or 5W30 viscosity, try to do a search in google/yahoo. If you want, start with Q8, Castrol, Mobil, Royal Purple, Petronas. I don't recommend Shell.
