This is what my mechanic told me

1) Jap spec car has very clean engine oil and filter. This means those japs they service their car regularly probably before the 25k km bmw recommends. How he knows? because he service a lot of those jap unreg cars for second hand car dealer.

2) mileage can be tampered with but usually they tampered with the cluster's memory but not the lcm memory. modic or any third party software can read the lcm memory. i had mine read, the lcm memory and the cluster memory match so it's all good.

Generally jpn cars are better condition than uk simply because the japanese drive less coz every thing is expensive so they only drive on the weekend. dont be surprise some really did 40-50k only for 5 years.

BTW bro tamade7, where can i get the icm memory check and how much this will cost.... any guys keen may be we can go chk togther.

bro tamade7

urs is local AB ..shoudn't be alot miss tally issue

just those "UNREG"

Bro TKEW,
u got pm

Any workshop that has Modic or Dis or any third party software will do. Tell them to read the LCM memory. FYI LCM denotes Light Control Module. It is the module with a knob where you turn your lights on/off. Unless the LCM has been change, it should read the total mileage. Even if the LCM has been changed BMW is able to reprograme the mileage on the LCM. So far I know only BMW would able to do so.

I got mine check at Bestness cost me RM150.00 to do it but then again it is my workshop so it's a one time cost kinda thing.

UK specs one have only 184hp vs 192 for the Jap/local M54 325i. Its also slower based on real world tests done by forummers here :p
I think it's to do with the difference between hp, bhp and ps ratings.

Wglee - That is what my thinking as well. BHP, HP (SAE), HP (DIN), HP(ECE) and many more has screw ups the standards for measuring power.

Go here Online HP Definitions to help you confuse yourself further.

No man.. it only applies to the M54 2.5L (325i, 525i). The M54 3.0 ltr output remains consistent.

Besides, based on power different ratings, the calculation is still off. i.e. 192ps = ~189bhp, and real world tests here in KL support the figures :p

Bummer, have to ask for a huge discounts from the dealer. BTW - You did a dyno test or something?

Out of curiousity, I pulled out some old issues of CAR and What Car magazines. Both are UK magazines.

In the cars' price list and spec sheet behind CAR magazine, the E46 325i was rated at 192 bhp.

In the cars' price list and spec sheet behind What Car magazine, the E46 325i was rated at 189 bhp.

If I recall correctly, the international brochure for the E46 325i states that it produces 192 bhp, and both CAR and What Car magazines quoted the E46 325i's 0-100km/h times from the international brochure.

As an aside, I believe the US/Canadian spec E46 325i is also rated at 192 bhp.

I heard from a local independent BMW workshop that UK spec cars in good condition upon arrival in Malaysia start to have oil leak problems after a few months of use in our weather; apparently the seals and gaskets might not be suitable for our weather. I don't know how true this is.
