Dear Sifus,After changing the oil separator, I noticed a vibrating/rattling noise especially when I accelerate (even gently). It comes and goes once I stabilise the speed.A couple of months ago, I noticed the sound when I start in the mornings and it stays when I engage into reverse.I left the car with my regular mechanic but he could not detect the issue. Not a problem but just don't like the noise :(Have been reading tthru the forum and could it be due to chain tensioner?Kindest regards.

ndsolo,
About ur problem its just going the same as mine few weeks ago. mine with n42 2.0L 2002. but the rattling only when morning start and after 10-15 minutes the sound gone.need Sifu's help..

hi...it depends on wheres the locale of the sound. If morning loud kluck kluck (for a few seconds to mins) it could be due to the brake vacuum pump that takes time to be coated with oil, as it is driven by the exhaust camshaft. Using fully syn oil accentuates this sound as the oil is thin.

For running kluk kluck around the front of the engine area near the tensioners / belt, could be the chain tensioner, or belt tensioner or in my case I changed the power steering pump and it went away. Changing the chain tensioner is abit of a job as it involves removing the head, and after awhile this needs to be replaced as the entire piece is made of plastic..why plastic? I have no idea...

Hope this helps.

Iceduke,
I believe u r reffering to timing chain guide. If Changing the chain tensionner will be a 10 minutes job only. The tensioner for n42 can be access easily without remove anything else.

PJG,
Try change the chain tensioner first as bro iceduke suggest. Infact, theres a new, redesign chain tensioner for n42 engine. Cost about RM90++ and i am really happy after changing mine =)

tq kby88..ok i'll change it dis weekend.by the way..how much the chain tensioner??is it to difficult to change otherwise i can change it by myself..

Bro kby88, when replacing mine, due to the part clearance a nearby hose had to be disconnected as told by mechanic. If not, the wrench wouldn't fit.

Bro ndsolo, oil separator is the one used for crankcase ventilation?

Sorry for delayed response bros.
Bro aidilj, I don't entirely know if oil separator is the one used for crankcase ventilation, apologies.
I will definitely try changing the chain tensioner, if it's a quick job.
Will update over the next few days...

ibrahim hanif,

Bro aidilj,

Did you bought & replace the chain tensioner at Ban Huat Chan Butterworth? How long did it take to replace it & what is the cost of labour? Does M43 use the same type of chain tensioner? Sorry for too many questions asked.

Cheers & thanks in advance.

He bought the tensionner in Ban Huat Chan. Then get it change in his regular workshop.
Parts cost about RM90.

Hmmmm. I called M1 and asked them how much and how long it will take to change the chain tensioner and they told me that they have not heard of such a part but only ball bearing tensioner and there are 3 of those.
