When it comes to buying a used car, the first thing that struck our mind is the mileage. straight away we will opt for low mileage due to several reasons such as wear n tear, still new..bla bla blahave you ever wondered whether low mileage is good or otherwise. im talking about genuine mileage not used car ones and a car which is more than 5 years old. so that low mileage, stuck for hours in traffic or high mileage cruising along the highway most of the time. which one would you pick?

Just to share with you guys my buying policy of a car

1) I NEVER trust dealers. They can say whatever they want. I always assume everything they say it's a lie. Trust me, you can never go wrong. I only go to them to do my homework since they've got many units available at their place.

2) Must be 1 owner driven and currently still driving. (not sleeping in the house)

3) Always buy from the owner directly. If he has bought it from a dealer previously, drop the idea of buying.

4) Seeing is believing. It has to come with full service record, repair bills and so on...Looking at the purchase invoice of your car at the price of close to RM300k is something altogether...

5) The car must be in the "condition" that you're expecting based on the year/mileage and weather mostly city or H/way driven.

6) Always bring it to a mechanic to check for yoruself, and inspect the car yourself together with the mechanic. Everyone knows a thing or two about cars, so that's a good starting point.

7) If there's plenty of wear & tear parts to be replaced, negotiate with the owner further. If it's just beyond your reach, then gotta keep looking.

in this boleh land nothing can be done ..doesnt mean that high millage car is not good and same goes for the low millage ...most importantly is the car is well kept in all aspects such as maintainance, paintwork , bushings are replaced, suspensions are tight and lastly a straight true body is what one needs ...

i'm more worried of an accident/potong car rather then the above millage matter ...

Depending on the type of car in question.

My wife's 2006 Picanto only had 1600km in 2009, because she hardly drove it, it was immaculate in & out. But when it came to selling it, the low mileage & minty fresh condition doesn't give it any advantage because the price bracket & demographic doesn't give a hoot about mileage, cost was the main factor. It was hard to find someone willing to pay more in that price bracket because its not a desirable car..its a POS.

When it came to buying a 4AGE powered Corolla, high mileage is to be expected.. but the engine & mechanics being mostly bulletproof, it dint matter. :top:
