Uncle, very good mileage your car is getting. Was it as good before replacing the O2 sensors? BTW your E38 looking GOOD.

I notice better mileage / smooth ride / good pick up/ slow engine noice after changing oxy sensors ( 2 front ) and all the 6 units plug sensors.
Also re-program its entire memory ....fresh memory of own driving style.

Both e38/e39 safely arrived B`worth this afternoon from long journey trvlg.
>e39 ...after 3 months left idle in workshop ( due to repair job/ accident) still maintain its original performance.
fuel consumption 9.0L/100km . Very reliable and economical car( fuel cons and maintenance cost)
> e38 : overall 8/10 rating in term of comfort and performance. Fuel cons: 11.5L/100km .
Total distance trvlg 1480 km during last 4 days journey for each of UDM.

e38 problem just crop up
Just after Jln Duta toll heard warning bell sound ...saw msg `TRANS FAIL SAFE PROG` appeared on the OBC.
More or less I can agak2 msg is something to do with transmission problem but don`t really feel any adverse
performance at that time ....pretend not serious just continue journey at average 160kmj . At Juru toll slowing down to 20 kmj
and passed through toll hse still not notice any differences. At tfc light approaching my hse, slowing down speed to stop.
When pressing pedal hard to floor ...car seems very heavy/lazy to move but slowly increase its speed and back to normal performance once
speed touching 100kmj. Stop engine and restart , msg still appear after short travelling and heavy again.

Sifu2 here ...your views/advise please

What is the problem per massage?
Which part need to change and its est. cost ?.

Note: Almost every screws and nuts have been touched except speedgear.

Hi Uncle Aziz,

I remember you mentioning the abs problem the last time, The ABS/DSC unit might be the problem. I had similar problem with the dsc unit, The abs and the dsc light was up. The odometer was not working and then that " TRANS FAIL SAFE PROG` message appeared after some time. Once I change the ABS/DSC unit and recode it, all problem was resolved.

I did not suspect DSC that give problem . I have changed the unit (new)
Have read articles abt the problem posted in the net .....common problem for 7 series
Will check tomorrow.
Anyway, feel relief as long as not the gearbox/speedgear issue.

Engine cold start this morning > msg ` Trans Fail Safe Prog ` disappeared . Back to normal. Smooth and no jerking . Might be due to excessive heat in the transmission system for travelling at high speed yesterday. Filters and oil changed in Sept 10 .

Long distance travelling for long hrs at high speed will be at risk. Recondition ZF gearbox costs rm5800 ( 3 months warranty) plus workmanship and oil add another few hundreds. Harap2 gb boleh tahan lagi sebab poket sudah tembus .

But i think still u have to check what is the actual fault...so far i've been travelling longest to segamat from subang jaya with high speed including the tangkak-segamat road doesn't give me any problem.

Seconded. BMW is design for long high speed cruising as long the car is well maintain

....problem free now.....the only problem for the time being is no where to ride until school holiday session .
...e39 is being used heavily for daily activities and short dist travelling.
....spent the whole sunday morning to DIY clean up.....3 hrs

pehhhh....had in my posession 3 full a4 pages of detail billing single out every items replaced new. Almost all screws and nuts hv been touched ( except gearbox and engine block)......and the cost of restoration almost RM40k to make it perfect e38.....problem free now. Tq
