Tyre Size on E90

Hi All,My E90 comes with the originally fitted 225/45 R17 RFT tyres mounted on a Style 339 rim (8 inch width). My tyres are due for a change anytime soon, and am wondering if I can switch to 215/50 R17 tyres? With this change, I believe the ride would not be as harsh as before, right? You want less grip? Factor in safety first. Just because you drop from 225 to 215 does not mean ride is better.

my e90 is wearing 235/35/R19 front... 265/30/R19 rear....
