Tyre pressure

Guys, what's the idea tyre pressure for city driving (traffic lights, jams, the works) with occassional straights and minimal highways? I'm in Kuching la, so do not have the luxury of going flat out along the highways and byways.BTW, what's the conversion factor between bar, psi and what not cos not all petrol stations air pumps are calibrated the same way.Thanks.

Check your manual or door jamb for BMW recommended tyre pressure settings. They should be the same regardless of urban or rural driving. (only exception is if you use the Autobahn everyday or carry full load of passangers and luggage in the boot/trunk).

Or you can start at 32psi all round and increase or decrease according to your butt. I have mine at 36psi all round and i like it that way. Better to over than under inflate.

Petrol station air pumps do not always have a working pressure gauge. Buy one (its not all that expensive - how much is your life worth?) and use it.

1bar = 14.5psi (approx)

Hey, I was from Kuching. Not living there long time now. The roads are not bad, so its the comfort level and the way you drive that determines the pressure. Typically, I would use 2-5 psi ABOVE the manufacturer recommendation if you can tolerate the ride comfort.

Or else, 2-3 psi below the rated figure if you want a softer road. It certainly depends on your tire choice as well since soft compound tires can take higher pressure without sacrifing ride comfort much. Also, size of rims, 18s are painful for 3 series, ok for 5 series. !5s are easy tho.

Was? Now PR in KL? Funnee, my wife from KL, now PR in Kuching!

Roads now pretty OK but still plenty of traffic lights, so it's stop & go most of the time unless at night or weekends. Even then, not much roads where one can really put the pedal to the metal!

Hi Jeff.
I was working in KL for some time. Then transferred to Manila. Philippines!. Strange place but rather nice to live once you get used to the place and its horrible traffic jams and lousy way of driving.

Most drivers can't turn here. They slowed to a crawl to take a corner, it contributes to slow traffic and serious jams sometimes. There are terrible buses cutting people left and right, Jeepney /minibuses spewing out black smoke etc, stopping near intersections!. In provincial road tricycles, hording up long queues of cars!.

But out of that nonsense, its rather nice. Good work environment, and rather nice social crowd and many great cars. Plenty more great foreign people here like very nice Germans, Swiss and American people.

PR in Sarawak. Now that's certainly interesting to see for west Malaysians. KL is nice and I actually do miss it now and again.

I your handle, I take it that you have a new Mini Cooper ?. A friend here has one and I rode in it. Pretty noisy engine from the CVT and also the runflat tires. Very niffty little car but I would not want to drive it everyday.
