I have used PS (225/55/16) on my e34 before, and never had any issue with comfort and performance. In fact its was the best set of tires I even had. :)

My experience is consistent with yours. The PS2 I had on my ex car 18's were remarkably comfy and quiet.

I'm running a set of Toyo's TR1 now with the new wheels on my car, and it really drones more compared to the RE050A II RFTs. Also not as comfy and supple as the PS2s from what I remember. PS2's will be my first choice when its time for a replacement of the current Toyos

Danc, yea, the major flaw with the RFTs is that to compensate for the super stiff sidewalls, manufacturers give really soft rubber for the thread to provide some level of comfort. The Potenza RE050As were threadwear 140 only, worse compared to the Pirelli RFTs.

The more I think about it, seems like the RFTs were really a major flaw in concept (at least for this current gen RFTs). I guess thats why BMW doesn't shod their flagship M cars with RFTs.

Dear E46Fanatic
Am curious on the Toyo T1 R. How did it differs in comfort and performance with your Michelin PS 2?

The Toyo T1Rs are looses out completely in comfort, noise and grip to the PS2. I would say its even more inferior to the original Pilot Sports I had before the PS2 in terms of grip and comfort.

Treadwear of the T1R is 280 tho, meaning its pretty hard rubber and should tahan longer compared to the PS2s. A collegue of mine recently swapped out his old 18' T1R's for Falken 452's on his Golf GTi and said that the FK452s were much grippier and comfy compared to the T1R's.

To take Falken 452 or ???

Hi E46,

My name is Tean. I have Michllin PP2 near bald tyres on my car.

Need to change fast.

You rekomend the quiet Falken 452?

Or something else? :bandit:

I haven't used the FK452's myself, but from what I have gathered, its a good tyre for the $$$.

The FK452's are have higher speed rating than the PP2's size for size and is targeted at PS2, CSC3, T1R, RE050 etc as its competitor, and folks chose it over the top end brand range cos of the price. Another lower cost/bang for buck tyre which may be worth trying is the new Sumitomo HTZ III which was surprisingly very highly rated by tirerack.

any idea how expensive these are relative to the other major brands?

I believe they are about 40-50% cheaper compared to top end brand models. I just ordered a new set of PS2's to replace my T1R today. My love affair with the PS2 begins again :).

Why not try Falken ZE912..Im using it right now,so far so good..anyway for 225/40/18 how many kpi air i need 2 pump?...Thx..

I had my Adjeniz Falken 225/45/17 burst on me. Went to Stamford tires, and met Ah Wai.. this dude is all bout tires. He has 9 years of experience. Stamford sells and is the main agent for Conti and Falken tires in Malaysia.

He recommends CSC 3 but did admit that Michelin Sports is a level up!! ( dont quote me ok! thats what the man said!!! ) and the tire pressure for e34? .....34psi for all tires!!! thats what they recommended!!! ( by they way he said that for e34, it has to be 235/45/17 for me!! 225 is for 3 series!

If you are looking for Falken or Conti.. I say go see this guy up.. they are in Glenmarie.. all my years with cars.. never had i have to wait for so long for them to do my alignment and balancing.. they are very through with their work and very knowledgeable

cheers

Me too using PS2 19", I personally like it a lot because of comfy, grib on dry and wet, low noise. Sometimes the air pressure make lots of different on the comfort, noise and grib / handling oversteer and understeer. Mine 34psi front and 36 psi rear when the tires are at stone cold.
A forumer here was using PS2 on his CSL, but now he has changed to CSC3 recently. But he is still prefer PS2.

So, no one here agrees with XXXX's findings on PS2?

In fact, reading this thread, I am quite sold on the PS2, judging from the favourable comments here.

Some people go for 'performance' tire because BMW is a 'performance' car, but what they really really want, really really want is comfort (and perhaps a Mercedes!) One man's quiet and grippy may be another man's unbearably hard and noisy ride, esp with input from wife and kids.

On my Advan Neova AD07 previously, a grippy tire if there ever was one, passengers often remarked on the tire 'noise'. To me it is musical feedback from the road surface. So, I reduced my tire-related noise by driving alone.

Yes, its tyre time for me too. I'm currently on 18" GY F1 GSD3 and I've been asked to try Dunlop Direzza DZ101. Does anyone have any feedback on these?

The reason many of us choose BMW over hard core Jap performance cars is due to the balance of sport and luxury/comfort. So tyres also like that, a really hard, harsh and noisy tyre feels significantly different from a supple, comfortable tyre which glides queitly and soaks up bumps like cushion while offering you glue like grip when you decide you want to have some fun!

PS2s make a huge difference to the overall enjoyment of the car in my case. For me I don't clock up a lot of mileage yearly so, its worth the premium to enjoy the car for a couple of years with the PS2. If i run through tyres fast, then its not viable unless $$$ fall down from the sky each time I need new rubber lol.

PS2s are good but they wear out very fast. they are a tad noisy as well...

Well threadwear is 220, so you can gauge the wear rate, but for me even with 20+k's street use on the tyres, it was still quite fresh.

In terms of noise, compared to its competitors RE050, T1R, CSC2/3, GSD3, I find it to be the quietest of the lot. Lower end non performance oriented tyre like the Conti CC1 and XM1's or MXV8's may be quieter tho. But different category.

Maybe others can feedback as well. I guess noise is relative :)

tok tok tok BMW driver complain tire price too much i is use Michelin Pilot Sport 2 on my 318 740 850 is no complain is very good

What tyre sizes are you running on the 740 and 850? PS2's don't come any smaller than 17's .

about my PP2 Michellin

Hi E46 and everybody here,

I was never really happy with my 1 year old PP2 Michellin because it is noisy and bumpy feeling. :bawling: Somemore I skidded 7 times going at normal speed. This is the worst of the worse tyres particularly on unlevel highway roads. (the unlevel road is only slightly unlevel. driving over the same road with my former bridgestone G3 was safer than PP2) The G3 infact is more stable than the PP2 in cornering. :104:

The boss at a Sunway tyre shop (near speedway/eh auto)recommended Yokohama Advan V-103 or Pirelli Rosso for my 523i car.

Are they good?

How they compare to Michellin Pilot sport 2 ? (ps 2) Is ps 2 comfy or too bumpy on unlevel roads?

The PP2's were developed in Michelin's R&D center in Taiwan from what I read unlike the PS2's. I have them on the wife's Jazz to replace the ageing Potenza RE040's. They are very decent tyres for the Jazz at stock tyre size of 185/55/15 (V rated) and are in my opinion better than the RE040 (V rated also at the same size) in wet and comfort/noise. The RE040 gives better road feedback and the PP2 is a bit more muted and numb. However, I've also read many similar complaints of the PP2's when shod on bigger, more powerful cars, and people comparing the PP2's to the FK452's (about the same price). The FK452's is the better performance tyre for the price.

PS2's are in a different league if you ask me. Performance wise they are slightly better than the FK452's but the strength is in the way its excels in normal daily driving. Its superbly comfy and quiet and transforms the car compared to other max performance tyres. So far I haven't come across any max performance tyre which betters it in this area. PS2's are definitely worth giving a shot at :).
