Yo! Bro.
This will be a bias answer. I've waited 12 years to get my hands on one since Bond, James Bond - Mr Pierce Brosnan drove it in GoldenEye in 1995.
I have also recently visited the Zetrum in South Carolina to see the very first handbuild Z3 for the movie. (talking about chasing dreams)
I had a Miata and a 206. Miata is a fun little car, but if you get that, you wouldn't be on this forum. www.mx5my.com
As for the 206, she will get sick every six months and spend more time in the garage than on the road.
I've also driven Boxster S and 911 Cabrio on track. Problem with the Boxster is that you are announcing to the world that you can't afford a 911. And as for the 911, you need skills as well as a deep pocket.
A used Z4 is about the RM200k mark... not an impossible target. I believe that Z3 will keep it's value better than Z4. This is because it was launched during the Asian Financial Crisis. Limited Units in town. While grey imports are flooding the market with Z4, that's no good for value keeping.
But a Z3 is not only easier to maintain, easier to drive. It's an instant classic. It's more to a Great White Shark than a Hammer Head Z4. But most importantly, you will be driving a legend, an movie icon (first Bond's BMW) for years to come. This, to me, is something what Z4 cannot attain, let alone other roadsters. Well, unless you get a Z8, but then again I think there are none in Malaysia.
So LONG LIVE to the BMW Z3
