To de-cat or not to de-cat?

tumbleweed, the sulphur smell may not be there all the time, it depends on way too many factors that affect the combustion... temperature, air-fuel ratio, etc...

Yeah, you're right. It's not there all the time. That's what making it so difficult to figure out. I've examined all kinds of situations and and there doesn't seem to be a common denominator which I could put my finger on. But however, lately I haven't smelled it at all. Hmmm.....

Has any E46 325 owners de-cat their exhaust? Any significant improvement (in terms of sound/grunt of the engine) or complications?
