My 12-years-11-months-old M43 engine finally reaches 250,007 km this evening without undergone an engine overhaul throughout its life. My question is when is the "right" time to do the overhaul ? I prefer a preventive measure versus reactive after it was too late. Thanks for your feedback.

if u prefer preventive, then it is time 2 do it. preventive always better than reactive. gud thinking there bro

i don't think there's a 'right' time for overhaul coz i wouldn't consider overhaul a preventive measure. those preventive stuff are done to prevent an overhaul, i.e. overhaul only when no choice.

Until the engine show signs of eating black oil, coming out smoke, head gasket burn, loud engine... then yes, time to overhaul. Else, do regular engine oil change would prolong yr engine.

Thanks to ya'll who have given ur honest feedback. I was looking for 2nd, 3rd and so on opinions. My mechanic has advised me NOT to do my engine overhaul despite the mileage on the odometer as there are no signs of engine oil depleting or whitish smoke from the exhaust system as well as the "hearing check" on the engine reveals no extraordinary sound. I just would like to make sure that I'll have peace in mind while driving my baby every day.
