Hello people, Its time for me to change my nearly 45000KM Michelin PP1s to a new set. Here's a few shorlisted candidates. My first criteria is quietness. It has to be on par or quieter than my PP1. A close second is grip on dry and wet. 1. Michelin Pilot Precedas 22. Hankook V8 RS3. Hankook RS 24. BFGoodrich G-Force Sport5. Falken 452s6. Falken ZIEX 512 Thanks!

I'd go for Contis, Michelins or Pirellis
for quiet'n'comfort as they're euro-suited
for our UDMs. btw how many inches you're
using? If 17" and more.... anything also can
cos you're sacrificing quiet'n'comfort for more
perfomo!!!

I am using Falken ZIEX 512, sad to say, it wear off (rear) very fast especially inner. With 5000km I can notice the diff, also many said it is noisier after it run 10,000KM. My camber is corrected each 3 months and it is at -1.2(left) and -1.3(right)

You should try Yokohama S Drive or YK520 or ADVAN SPORT. Aspec DB is very comfy and quiet...

Me too, time to change tires for my E34, looking for size 235/45/17.

I have these on list:

1. Kumho Ecsta SPT KU31.
2. Dunlop Direzza D101.
3. Yokohama C or S drive.

Anbody has any comment about the above tires?

Ade, maybe we can go hand in hand shopping for tires..hehe..can get better price mar..

Not considering Hankook? I've Ventus K104 and it's good in wet/dry. No aqua floating when hitting standing water (didn't see it around a bend) at ~100kph.

how about pirelli dragon? no aqua planning..reasonable price..

Just change my PP1 to PP2. 225/50 17. Got them for RM490 each from Shah Alam Tyres. Good price I think. So far no complain.

Ade and all, I just changed my tyres over a week ago after one tyre got damaged by a big pen knife blade that I rolled over (well, I don't think it's sabotage because it only happened halfway into a journey)...

Changed to Continental CSC3, RM820 a piece for 225/45R17... there went RM3+k for all four... tyres changed at Goh Swee Hin Sdn Bhd here at Jln Air Itam, Penang...

Car was on super-cheapo Hankook Ventus HR II, 215/45R17, fitted by the previous owner. Needless to say the CSC3 are quieter, and softer too, like I reduced my spring rates.

Btw, the 215/45R17 CSC3 is something like RM90-100 less, what a difference 10mm makes in price...

Other tyres that I looked around:

Falken FK-452... RM500+
Yoko Advan Neova AD07 215/45R17 RM620
Yoko Advan Neova AD07 225/45R17 RM670
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 215/45R17 below RM400 (Thai), below RM500 (Germany - no stock)
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 225/45R17 RM500+ (Thai), RM680 (Germany - no stock)

I had used the C drive before and really like it. It is quiet and on wet road handling is superb. Now i'm on yoko db decibel ES501. Claimed to be the ultimate silence. Yes it is but wet handling are not as good as c drive. But now c drive came in two version, one made in japan and the other one made in philippine/thailand (can't remember). The one other than made in japan is much cheaper.

Good luck

Been using Kumho ECSTA Spt KU 31 for 3 month++. I could only compared it to my previous Bridgestone RE03. Discovered that its less noisy, does not pull the car to road gradient. reasonably fair grip during rain. Everything expected from a budget tyres. I could really rip out my old tyre to 200km/h+ in raining cond. (KL-Kuantan h/way but please not that I recommend driving fast, pls refrain from driving beyond speed limit, think safety) but not Kumho at that speed in the rain. Kumho really has soft side wall compared to my old one and it show during cornering. Gotta pump extra air pressure just to balance.

Other than that, quite reasonable tyres.

Here's the thread pattern of my Conti CSC3, photo taken today after nearly 1000km, as the tyres get run in, they seemed to get quieter, or maybe it's just me... :)

I had the PP2 tires after so much hype and promos (must have cost the distributors a bomb for all the fancy promos). What a load of C R A P !!!!!!!

It does not excell in anything other than it perform ordinarily. On rough roads the sidewalls will make your head reach the roof if you are not careful and a low humming sound appears at mid speeds. It grip ordinarily dry or wet. In fact the grip is worse than Falken 452 selling at the same price. Noise is about the same because the PP2 gets noisy under some situation just as the Falken get noisy on different situation too. Everyone who drove my car afterwards said the same. Perhaps comparing the PP2 to a Bridgestone MY 01 or the cheapest tires from Silverstone or Goodyear or even SIME have contributed these people to thinking they are great?!:stupid: :bird: :10: :26:

I have PP2 on the wifey's Jazz. It's much better than the RE040 which came with the car, but not the same category as PS2 which I have used before. Its High Performance category tyre not Ultra High Performance like the PS2 or Falken 452.

I find it quiet, and decent in grip and quite affordable (Thai made!). For 15" if the 452 was avaialble in that size, I'd opted for it over the PP2 tho. 452 min size is 16". PS2 min is 17". PP2 is 15".

New carr

I just got new car. Mine is Japan spec. 525. 17inc Yokohama Avan V103. Vrly good. Irm vrly happy with grip and quiet. The autoword dealer say 103 betterr than lauyar micherlin pp2 and Yoko-s drive!

i'm also in need to change my rear tyres. size i need is 225/45/17. Was quoted RM330-ish for Falken 522 (made in indonesia). I would want to go with the adrenalins, which i am using in the front, but decided to go with directional tyres so that i can cross them when the time comes.

Any comments on tyres from indonesia?

...not really lah unless...

If you use sport springs and shock absorbers together with big tayar, you will have a very hard and bumpy ride. But if you change to 17 inch tayar only and stick to BMW original spring and shock absorbers, the ride will hardly change drastically at all. Stick to original Sach BMW specs(or Sach Merc specs if using Merc) is the best way to avoid expensive troubles later on.
