I've had my 2006 E90 325i for 1.5 years now.

Thinking of upgrading to a 2010 F10 528i.

Recon 2010 528i is now being sold for abt RM230k.

Hoping to get a locally assembled 2010 for RM150k in 2016.

I know 2016 is 1.5 years away but I normally plan well ahead.

My calculation is based on the pricing of my E90.

I got My 2006 E90 in 2012 for RM100k. It was RM280k when new in 2006 ie 65% depreciation.

Using a similar formula, a 2010 F10 528i was RM440k with a 65% depreciation after 6 years should be valued at RM150k in 2016.

What do you think?

A perusal of 2008 E60 530i Prices in Mudah.com reveals that the its selling for RM120k to RM150k.

So a sub RM150k F10 528i in 2016 is very possible.

More so that the 528i is actually a 3 liter engine.

anxious.. bravo on your plan to upgrade and long term planning

This might be useful when u contemplate N20 vs N52..

Haywire.. yes, early 2012 as I recall test driving it before the M'sian launch of the F30 in Feb'12.

Thks guys.

I think the 3.0 528i will depreciate much faster than the 2.0T 528i, hence better value for money.

Futhermore, i think i'll enjoy the 3 liter straight six more.

Anxious,
Coming from an E90 325 to the present 528 Msport LCI N20 4 cylinder engine, the first thing that unnerves you is that the bloody engine sounds like a diesel! But once you get into the driving seat i doubt you will miss the good old 6 cylinder. No doubt you will miss the silky engine of the inline 6 (gotta stump up for 535 if you really want a Q car)but i suppose for technology and petrol savings, one has to move with the times, especially in Msia. The 528 6 cylinder will not be as frugal at the petrol pump as the N20. Power delivery, given the turbo is linear and sufficiently rapid for a car this size. You wont miss the 6 cylinder in terms of power.N20 turbo beats old 6 cylinder! You might say that i am pleasantly surprised by the N20 engine, although friends still on 6 cylinders laugh and ask if its a diesel i'm driving. Plus its certainly more comfortable than the 3 series and its quite nimble(given its size comparatively, but the 3 still beats it due to the size and weight factor) once you get used to it. It's more of an executive sedan rather than an out and out boy racer like the 3 series.
Reliability of the N20 remains to be seen long term, but the present F10 is near its life cycle as the replacement is due 2016 and maybe in Msia by 2017. Also turbo may be issue later. Remember that having a 6 year old 6 cylinder 528 will have its own problems, given its age and the magnesium alloy engine. I remember my E90 325 had a period (about 6 year old)in which the seals had to be changed due to leaks (makan engine oil syndrome at one period), the rear suspension, and change of plastic radiator coolant tank leak due to our hot weather(recommended to replace about 70K i was told later by one mechanic). But other than that car was relatively trouble free, which i think you will know(I hope your 325 hasnt been giving problems). My 2 sen worth is if you really want the 6 cylinders(die hard 6 cylinder fan!) may be a bit more difficult to find one in mint condition. If not, buy newer and maybe still get BSRI ......(jatuh standard 4 cylinder cannot be BMW as my bro calls it!) . But I still miss the sound of a 6 cylinder....nostalgia.. LOL

Ohchein,

Thanks for your feedback. It was great talking to you today.

I have pretty much decided on a pre reg 528i next year. Waiting for 2016 car.

Expect dealers to start slashing prices based on the following:-

1) poor economic climate, hence soft/weak demand
2) new E Class to be launched in Jan 2016 at Detroit Motor Show,
Should arrive msia by mid 2016, hence aggresive price cutting by MB
3) new 5 series ie G30 also expected to be lauched next year, hence clearance sales for the F10

Downside, is the risk of waiting is price increase due to currency depreciation but is unlikely in view of above factors

2016 will be an interesting year
