Hi i would like to know what is the standard stock sizes for the speakers for a pre-88 e30 coupe ... front (kickpanel) and back. Also if I fit a 3 way speaker will i need to cut a lot of the speaker board behind?thanks :D

the front is 5.25" if you can reroute the bonnet lever you can fit 6.5 " with a spacer...

i think the back si 5.25" but i think you can get away with 6 " at the back with a spacer...if you want to fir 6x9" at the back you got to cut through the metal and the parcel tray.

spend more money on the a better pair of front components...just install 6" at the back...

If you want to see a simple setup just pm me you can test mine...

the ideal ICE setup would be a good pair of front component (2 or 3 way. if 3 way, u have to custom fabricate the door pocket. if 2 way, if would be good to add in a woofer.

if you wan a free way woofer, u need to mount it at the back of the speaker panel. but the woofer have to be powered by a powerful amp. else, a box woofer will do it. make sure you take out the rear speaker when you install the woofer so that the bass will be able to travel to the front.:)

i'm running a 2 way component with the amp located at the boot. i prefer not to install under the seat as it is troublesome for tuning.:D one thing i like about bmw is that, it doesn't need extra sound proofing compare to japanese cars.:) it sounds good!

I second that! Sound quality better and more solid. No metal rattling sound.
Try to get good installer that hv good knowledge on ICE and UDM.

hi all thanks the enthusiatic replies.
I'm actually thinking of putting it back
to 'ORI' cause I'm not very particular
about the sound system ... as long as
can hear boleh.

the previous owner installed a box behind
thus a long duel cable from the front to the
back. But he didn't leave the box and the front
speakers ... i got the car with no front speakers.

I think he widen the kick panel hole cause i can
see that the speakers he installed had new holes
on the panel itself ... maybe he install 6"s.

Now I'm planning to install stock front & back but
i need to cover up the damage he did to the front
kick panels.

going to jln pasar to look for some speakers :) therefore
need to know size :) ... recommended by DIY friend to
install 'promax' brands.

Made a mistake in allowing the 'Brothers' guys to install
the kenwood player now my power windows don't work :)

oh yah ... the stock tweeters on both sides of the car ... it that stock?

also any recommendations for places i don't safely do my stereo setup & fix back some of misplaced wirings? thanks guys.

by the way, are you still instrested in the stock speakers? PM me. :) orginal from the BM. i still have the front pair in my store. it's working perfectly fine.

ICE and car wiring at the same place?; depend on what type of car wiring, for accessories may be can be done at the same place but for original wiring I don't think so.

However, for ICE my recommendation goes to KK Lau at Taman Megah, PJ (based on my recent project there) or the legendary uncle Simon @ Techichi, PJ.

Damn! Just to share my experience.

I went to Jalan Pasar and bought a couple of speakers. But while I was installing the front ones I think my driver side is full of wires. The damn speaker sparked.

I think my fronts speakers (5 1/4') are too thick (magnet is 1.5cm) hahaha overestimated the space forgot that wires on drivers side are plenty. Guess I have to look for a thinner one.

The back are 6.5"s and hmm it doesn't fit ... duh of course laa... but now wondering if I cut the thing to size will the space below to the metal be enough to accomodate.

Thank God, that the speakers are cheap or not i'll have hole in heart. Cheers.
