hi.. am new to the forum.. i am trying to find out what front rotor sizes (diameter and thickness) the various models for e36 and 346 uses.. i have tried searching the web but have not found a comprehensive list.. appreciate anyone with such information.. thanks!

got your PM asking about my E30 325i brake calipers. So am curious which car are you driving and what u have in mind to project on....hmmmm....

Hi Johan,

If I remember correctly, these are the measurements -

E36 fronts - 286mm x 22mm
E46 fronts ( except 330i ) - 300mm x 22mm
E46 330i fronts - 325mm x 25mm

Regards,

VaN

hahah.. i just PM'd u back.. shy to talk about otehr cars in the BM forum, but you're right that i'm planning to transplant a suitable BMW caliper onto my ride. Just need to find out which version/model has a similar rotor size to mine so that I can be sure that the caliper can fit.. thereafter, my mechanic would have to do some serious modding.. heheh.. hope that you can help.. especially to confirm the dimensions of the rotors that the e30 uses...

you might as well get the Proton rotors, cheap and readily available. or get the Nissan 4 pots calipers.

VaN, thanks for the info.. one more request.. any idea about the e30?

or better yet, any bimmer (any version) has rotors sizes 294mm X 24 mm?

thanks..

Fabian,

I plan to retain my stock rotor, just change the caliper!

sorry to highjack, but since we're on the subject matter...

got questions to clarify;

1. is it okay for me to fix the e46 330's front rotor to my e46 323, plug & play?
2. is mine a 2 port?
3. necessary to change to the braided cable?

1. Yes, it bolts on directly, but you must change to 330i calipers too.
2. Yes
3. No

in addition:

1. The 330 brake rotors are larger in diameter, thus you will need the 330 hangers from the 330 for your calipers to clear the larger rotors. I am not 100% sure, but i think the existing calipers will still work with the new rotors, and you will need to get new brake pads.

The 330 discs have a larger contact area. So the 330 pads are bigger and your existing calipers will not be able to house them.

back to tthe original question:
Would the rotor fit with the stock caliper.

My answer still is corrent, it will still work, with new pads. The contact patch would only be the surface area of the pads.
