recently have a weird problem wit my E46.. when i turn the ignition key to crank the engine, nothing happens for a few seconds..then the engine cranks up..sometimes i have to turn the ignition key back and try again and it starts...wonder if any of you E46 owners have come across a similar problem? any input is much appreciated..regards

It might be the Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor and maybe alternator. Most probably could be the Fuel Pump. Check these with your workshop Mach.

bro,

i had the same problem two weeks back - took it to my regular mech in Desa Pandan - Coburn - he told me could be the fuel pump but as i was in a hurry -suppose to sort it out next service which is due this Saturday.

the problem had dissepeared completely but today - after lunch - when i reversed my car from the parking lot - the rpm - dropped and the engine died. when i tried cranking - the car sort of starts and dies immediately. then started standing and accelerating - then no problem. Drove back all the way (about 6km) no problem.

going to send to mech tomorrow am.

if next time u start your car and immediately your engine die off again, after a few attempt and the same problem persist, try stepping on your gas pedal and then crank your engine. if this work, u better have your idling control valve check for fault, if there is no fault on GT1, get it clean. the flap inside the idling valve is suppose to bounce like a spring when u use a screwdriver to flip it open, its suppose to flip open and close like spring easily without and resistance that allow the airflow while u start your engine. if it doesnt flip open and close like a spring, get it clean with WD40, make sure its clean properly

dro mouse,

thanks bro - the symptoms i.e dying engine which only stays started with the gas pedal being stepped on - is what i am having right now.

So will get mech to chech the idling control valve.

again many thanks bro

cheers
