Hi all,I'm hoping someone recognises this problem. The Kenwood CD/VCD player in my e34 is an automatic flip-face. It usually flips out and turns on when the car is started but lately seems to have gone into some default mode - it sticks out for the head-unit to be removed and stays that way. When the head is removed, the metal bracket goes back into the dash. There are no switches to reset or something except one behind the head unit with 0 1 2 3 settings. There is also some problem with the amplifier wiring. The previous owner said he had had it sorted out.I've been to two accessory shops around my place but they say I have to dismantle the whole set and send it to a kenwood main dealer for servicing/repair. Any suggestions where I can get it done by a competent guy? Thanks.Rgds, Faiz

Aiks... no suggestions ar? Surely someone in the forum has a similar player if not similar experioence?

maybe most of the time, members here change their players once they detect a problem..???

Why waste time repairing, just go Brother's and buy a new one.

:D :D :p :p

Jeff,

Mean fella, you !!! Some more ask the poor chap to go to Brothers for a replacement. For that kinda service and worksmanship, better go spend you money elsewhere la.

Faiz, the shops are quite rite. The flip mechanism is something that is not to be fixed any technician cos they cud pretty much screw it up if they have no clue of what needs to be done. BTW, does your player come with Kenwood's MASK feature ? Either way, play it safe and send it to the local agent - let them fix it. Or, you could trade it in and get a new one. The choice is yours, Bro.

Cheers,

VaN.

Thanks. Yeah, I think it does have the Mask thingy. Perhaps I'll check it out at any Kenwood agent and try to get it changed. NO point having an intricate ICE setup that only works on and off. Cheers.

Good move, Faiz. The MASK thingy is quite complicated so better let the experts deal with it. If you need to change the HU, then you'll have a bunch of choices in hand. Happy hunting.

Cheers,

Faiz,

2 possibilities;

the flat panel (when player is off) is slipping out and preventing it from going into play mode. check when the player is in the eject position the bottom (the flat panel) is not sliding out easily.

or

due to the flip action, the connector cables have been worn out and needs to be replaced at kenwood. after sometime the player will have no sound from the cd or radio at all. i spend rm150 a year doing this via my installer at kennkenn. .... yes, the lifespan of these flexible cables... *yikes*

That is why I still prefer those simple HUs without those "flipping" faces and "loud" displays which can get screwed once in a while. Call me "old" but I like the retro looks...

Come to think of it, I still have my old trusty Sony XR7170 (10+ years old)which is still in good working condition except for the 10-disc CD changer which has long gone AWOL.

Flash-san,

Like the old retro look HU eh ? Why not replace the CD changer-less HU with a Naka or the ol Sony ES series ... a mint condition C90 or C910 with external processor and EQ wud fit the bill nicely ma ...

I like your things to do list ... strut bar ? - leather seats - HIFI !!! Let us know once you've got the 1st 2 items closed though I am not a big believer in strut bars. Thanks.

The second of the two possible problems seems to be the culprit. The radi/cd sound has been erratic fro some time (maybe also due to the pre-/amp wiring). Will see if the prob can be fixed but tangan itchy to change the HU as the exist8ng player does not have MP3!Thanks anyway, guys, for your views.
