Car is 528 1997. Previously, no problem to the radio, bypass another head unit in passenger compartment. Ipod using the Cd Changer. With Amp and component speaker and everything. Took out the ipod/cd player etc. and plug back everything. The radio suddenly got problem, it cannot be turn on or during listening (while driving) it just died off, sometime it came back again. Sent to the installer twice as thought it could be the wiring as like no power coming to the radio or something. Funny thing, while you can listen/access the CD/radio, you can still check the OBC or clock. Any idea ?????????? Thanks Guys

I don't really understand E39 setup. So is the radio and OBC/clock supposed to be related?

Not sure myself whether the radio and OBC/clock is related or not. What I do know is that previously when installing the ICE, there is no issue to the radio. Previously, did the set up as following: CD player in the glove compartment, can listen to the CD player direct without turning on the original player/OBC/radio unit. However, if I want to listen to the Ipod, have to switch the CD player in the glove compartment to AUX and on the original player/OBC/radio unit and select CDC (as Ipod connector replacing the CD changer).

When took out everything and put everything back to original condition. CD changer and radio and OBC ok, but sometime the CD changer and radio just died off on me. You push the on/off button also no point. But if you push the OBC/clock the message appear on the screen either time/distance/km etc. Only the radio/cdc goes dead and sometime ok again like ghost in the machine hehehe.

Any idea

The radio is controlled by a radio module located in the boot. Looks like your radio module is about to fail you. The obc and the clock is not related and can function separately.

Alamak, I dare not comment on E92 bro. The reason I dare to gave my opinion to yoke is because when a radio module in an E39 is about to kaput it will give symptoms as what yoke is going thru. In my case, there was no sound being transmitted to 3 speakers, so I listen to 1 speaker for a few months, then the last one also failed. I lived for a few months without any sound because AB cannot identify my part number to replaced. I then have to book one from USA for my made in Germany car, what a joke !! When the module arrive, USD720, I discovered it is recondition, but work FINE like new. Sorry bro Dzul, tak berani comment
