hi all..lets share what small feature u like about your beloved E36.I start first.- there is a light on the bonet cover, pretty convenient when we wan to check something in the dark- there is light behind each of the sun shade.. and it lights up when we open the mirror on the sun shade .. in fact i think the slide cover is pretty cool.. unlike some new car which the cover open in awkward way..and there are more 3 room lights at front and 2 at back.. pretty cool- the steering feels different n different speed, it stiff up in higher speed- the wiper got a special 'one time wipe' .. when we pull it down, other cars not have it- the indoor lights slowly dim off when we lock the car, and it comes out when we open the lock from remote, kinda prepare us to go in the car (i not sure is this standard function)- it is very easy to change the foglamp bulb, just need your hand, no tools required.- the tiny ashtray/compartment near handbrake place, which opens in elegant way- gauge light brightness adjustment, pretty cool, back in the days when e36 just comes out, i think very very few cars have that- can adjust headlamp height from inside the car.- tools is kept on the trunk cover, very tidy- there is handle inside the trunk cover, for you to close the cover, without need to touch the outside.- there is place to put your petrol cap when we fill in petrol, back in those days, no other car have that.. i think.- driving position is nice (same with other bmw)and many many more.. which i cannot type all now. :)to me, just like other bmw, everything is properly design and very practical.lets all share what you like about your cars.

Wah! only the earlier batches of the E36 has bonnet light la.. :p

~ no sticking out radio antenna that always sangkut in the tree in housing area.
~ you can never forget about switch off the rear window heater because everytime you off the car, it resets the switch.
~ tilt-able head rest.
~ bonnet no need tongkat.
~ can adjust headlight height on the fly.
~ radio reception is superb on the highway, until very very far.
~ wiper speed to slow down when car come to stationary.
~ 2-stage door lock using key from the outside.
~ 3 central lock master, both front doors and trunk.
~ double latch bonnet closer for additional safety.
~ lots of leg room and head room.
~ the unique cabin scent formulated by scent specialist to keep the driver fresh after hours of long distance driving.
~ super small turning radius, makes getting in/out of car park effortless, stress less experience.
~ Tachometer as standard to give drivers extra information on economical drive.

... and all this are already standard item in this 20 year old car!

Bro, u should try the manual 318i... smooth gear change without using clutch when car in motion, its low gear won't get shivery when u go at near stationary speed without depressing clutch... I still don't know how they manage to do it. If its JDM manual box, traveling 10kph at 3rd speed, the engine will shake so hard that your pants can drop! Was told its sharing the same clutch pad with a 328i manual box so for the 318i, the clutch pad is so lasting until owners can ignore this wear & tear item.

Want me to start a list for the E90s? :p

To open the door lock from the inside, pull the handle once to unlock and the second time to open the door, cool for every BMW cars.

Yeah Yeah~~~ Forgot to mention..
The clever design is that, the Antenna is actually our rear defogger!
what a clever design... and it exist in 20 years old car
those engineer is .. superb

anyway... i drive 318i manual
well, when slowing the engine will shake
when starting to go, and if i not press enough pedal, the engine will shake too.

do u mean the owner manual, or the repair manual?
actually i have both, in softcopy..
PM me if u like to have them.. i can burn into cd for u.. small file but too big to mail.

forgot to mention
one thing i really love is
the way everything in place
is like i sit inside first time
i know where is the gear shift (unlike some new car, either too high, too far away, too low..)
and i know where is the clutch, brake, oil pedal,
and also the steering holds well.. and also no problem reaching the wiper and signal stalk.

and the thing is
the car is build to last
i know some ppl that not own bmw might disagree
but from big part to small part .. they r build properly
example the signal stalk
why the headlamp switch is not there... so that they could build it to last longer
i bet the stalk will never break.

(well.. only exception i can find about not lasting.. is the plastic water pump.. but we can replace it with OEM steel one)

What I can say is E36 engineering is way much better than newer Japs car in the same class :top:

yes...
and E36 is a car being design before year 1992....
thats the amazing part

yes guys.. i really like the way things are set up in the cabin... everything is so nicely set and all dials within reach in the cabin.. no need to take ur eyes of the road for long...

the only set back inside cabin is rear leg room is tight... compared to a Merc or Jap... but wat the heck, who cares.., hehe!!

when you are parked on the road side at night, pushing the right (or left) signal handle further down will light up the small lamp in the front and rear. It really help to let other people see your car in the dark.

Only thing is friends will call you and say that you forget to off your car light.. LOL

The reason for this is because the BMW engineers try to push the engine and transmission box as far in as possible away from the front axle to shift the chassis weight backwards to improve on the chassis weight balance. As such, the front foot wells are narrow and if its a manual transmission E36, the pedals are all a little dangerously close to each other but Hey! what can beat a balance weight chassis car?

Haha... the 318i manual is exceptionally economical to run, can drag pretty well, 180kph is sap sap water and remain stable even with kaput front dampers! :top:

Yes, the engine will still shake if too slow and mati straight away.. :p then you just need to press clutch and release it again real quick, engine will restore.. What I tried to say is try your 3rd speed and see how slow can u go before engine start to shake and stall, then try on a JDM.. you will notice the JDM engine will shake long before the 318i.. must be the exceptional good torque in the bimmer.

One of my favourite features on my ride is the rear fog light, useful during heavy downpours on the highways:)

Loved the one-time wipe, petrol cap and headlight height adjustment. I liked the ashtray opening so much I played it with for a while when I first got my E36, macam tak pernah tengok.... oh yeah, the little orangey glow in the ashtray (at night) was very cool.

As for the indoor lights auto slow dim feature, my mum once caused me to miss a train to the airport (ran to platform, got all hot and sweaty, but missed it anyway, then had to wait 45 mins for next train since I was taking KLIA Transit), because she kept unlocking and locking my car (she said the lights won't turn off, duh!). I scolded her later for being so obsessed with the lights when the car was in a locked house compound and her maid was home... what made it worse was that she used my car for 3 years and never noticed that feature until the day I was flying off to Vienna. :102:

Hehe, the radio antenna was so cool. All my friends kept asking "where's your antenna? so fast got stolen already ah?" LOL!

Bonnet is youngster mah.. sure don't need tongkat one.. hehe loved that... my friend was checking out my engine and was too scared to lean in coz got no tongkat! Kakakakaka....

Another friend asked me eh, why you off your wiper... it's still raining!

Like if your car windows is down when you lock your car it will automatically be wound up.

Yeah I loved this, coz my parents house is very hot, so when I parked there, sometimes I wound down all the windows if I know I want to go out again soon...but sometimes it rains, so that auto-wind up very handy :D

Yeah lor... I only discovered this feature after owning the car for 10 years! So I only used it in the last year of owning my E36. Of course the moment I started using it (used it once at Carcosa), the hotel people came looking for me saying I left my lights on... :stupido:

Till today... regret letting my baby go....

i lurve the dimming of the rear view mirror whenever some plonker hits me with a high beam...really useful...

what stil impresses me is that the windows automatically winds up once u alarm lock the car. Also found out later that the rear windows automatically winds up half way once u hit a certain speed from fully wound down position. Guess this is part of the car's safety feature if you have young ones sitting in the rear. My gf enjoys the vanity mirror the most. Instant light upon sliding the cover open.

It's the built quality that really takes top position (apart from the driving experience). Just recently compared it with a brand new 2.4L JDM's door, you can really see the difference in built quality.

yeah!!
And another things i really love
it exist since early models (such as E30) and until the latest bmw (such as E60)
is the little analog meter that shows "L/100km"

its really cool, and i really thankful that bmw never change it to digital one.
Its so cool to watch
and can observe how much fuel we use
the best thing is,
when letting go to foot,
we can see the needle point to "0"
where no fuel is being injected in the engine
and when press hard.. we can see the lil needle dissapear into over tha max indicator.. :D

Theres been 4 month owning my 'baby', still can't overcome the 'wow' feeling esp on the features, its my new candyshop hahahaaa....:proud:
Most people around me said it was quite a 'big stake' owning UDM as my first car, though never regret my choice!!!

P/S; what a worthy investment!:top:
