my windscreen is badly scratched from the outside. reason i assume mainly due to aged wipers which have collected dust and sand. i don't think the previous owner ever changed the wiper because the conditions look very bad. my questions:1. can the scratches gone by any treatments?2. is it for real no other wiper brands that can fit besides the BMW brand?thanks in advance.

2) I just got my replacement wiper from Munich over the weekend. It is Bosch. I had asked a few silicone wiper shop/traders if they had the size but they didn't keep stock for 26". Most are willing to insert the silicone wiper blade if you ok to use your old frames. 2 out of 3 didn't want to give me any warranty due to this and the one that did - the price wasn't that attractive

1) It depends how deep those scratches are. Maybe take a pic and show? Anything you do, do not apply any of those "cleanning rain mark" asid / liquid on your front windscreen now that you have scratches... it will permanently haze the glass.

If you talk to the cermin guys I'm sure something can be arranged. We have discussed this in the forum in the past, and apparently, even with small stone chips on the windscreen, they can change for you under insurance.

Don't rush to change new first ok... u still got some options.

As for insurnace, still not to late to "add" this into your insurance. Just give your friendly agent a check. Not as much headache as adding a "flood" rider to your car insurnace. WS is pretty straight forward. Usual there is a cooling off period - 1 or 2 montsh if i not mistaken, then this also becomes an "option" and it doesn't affect your NCD. :)

i'm newbie
mind to ask ,how much possible to insured....n how much the premium that need to pay...anyone that experience pls adv

Hizool,
Its RM 150 windscreen damage coverage for RM1000. So depending on your ride's windscreen costs, get RM3000 coverage should be enough. BTW, I had my windscreen changed last month and claimed within 1 month time, which is pretty fast.

Most importantly, workmanship...cheers!

Sum assured of rm1500 is more than enough if you only need a MSG windscreen. Pm me if u want to know where to get it replace. I replaced mine 2 weeks ago.

If your windscreen has never been replaced/ removed (original factory installation), please repair. Replace only as last resort.
Excerpts from article:
A windscreen is a structural member of the body of the car. It supports the A-pillar which supports the roof. In a roll-over, the cars with original windscreens have a better chance of remaining in place and supporting the roofline.

“The motor insurance companies amended their windscreen policies so that car owners could claim only for the repair work,”

Good info in this link http://www.cbt.com.my/2012/02/16/malaysias-car-ownership-cost-and-windscreen-repairs/

..i do believe in repairing, long as windshield doesnt sustain large cracks (eg. 20 cm) ... if such crack appear, it means structural integrity is already compromised and repair will not be as good as brand new windshield, long as it is installed properly...

Just to share my experience in repairing my chipped windscreen this afternoon:

The shop owner did advise me that this could be a temporary measure. If the crack spreads than no choice but to change the whole thing. I do have RM5k cover for the W/S, just dont want to go thru the hassle of claiming. Also, be sure the screen in completely dry as to avoid moisture from seeping in. Best to soak the car in the hot sun for a while as when I came to his shop early in the morning, he asked to come by later just to be sure no morning dew in the crack. Total damage RM60.
