Dear Parents, Bro & Sis,Sometimes I do wonder why situations can't be practical. My only goin-to-be-year-1 kid got enrolled to a school 10 km away whereas there is one less than 1 km from our home!! of 14 yrs!!Yeah, I know I know; 1st come 1st serve, under table over table blah blah. Though can appeal I'm not well verse on how it goes. How to strengthen the appeal, what info needed etc etc. Can any parents/friends share some thoughts? :(

It's a simple procedure.

1) Go to the school and appeal directly with the administration.

2) Send a copy of the appeal to the Ministry of Education. Make sure the school is aware of it.

3) Prepare all relevant documents. eg: IC, bills which states your name and address.

It's been a practice of government schools to accept enrolment at such an early stage and I see no reason for them to deny entry for your son.

Thanks Jeff. I would say you mean appeal direct with the preferred school. In the correspondence it says a "Rayuan" form to be obtained from the 10 km school & submit it to the Guru Besar there. Could it be a new rule?

Yes, was referring to the preferred school. There's basically no new rules as I know of as this point of time. It's simple negotiation.

IMHO, No school will know the actual student count for the next 2 years, let alone, for the next 6 yrs, thus accepting your son will not be an issue. There will definately be changes of allocated 1st year students.

All you require is to cancel your sons name at the approved school once you have a confirmation from your preferred school. Not a big problem, I've done it before and it's basically hassle free if you minus all the running around from the schools, waiting for the Guru Besar, filling up forms..blah, blah!;)

Actually, it happen to my kid as well. What you really need to do is the following:-

1. get the transfer consent from the present school. The HM should be able to help you on this.
2. When you got the letter, you have to go to your local education ministry and get the consent to transfer to your school of your choice. If there is a place available, then the EM will approved it. Most of the time, they will says that the school quota is full (especially a popular school).

I have tried the above step and fail to get my kid into the school of my choice.
Finally end up calling one of my friend to pull string and got the approval.

BTW, I did not paid any money for the favour.. he..he..

Been appealing in & out...verdict...failed! My kid is going to a school 11kms away! Yeah, what-so-called maximizing our $$...d*#n

write to the newspapers and complain...that might change thier mind

My aunt worked in the 'Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah' and use to tell us these kinda stories (now retired). I remember her saying that its a simple enough procedure, but gets complicated for also a simple enough reason : schools are already packed and sometime just can't accomodate anymore.
She said, parents always say its just one more kid. But she said she handles hundreds of these 'one more kid' issue every month....
and on this matter... theres no under table thingy laa... to get contract to build schools maybe... he he...
