guys...i paid a whopping RM1,950 to replace my mass flow sensor (the sensor on your air intake) today. original bmw p/n: 7 520 519 02 (Siemens VDO). be very careful especially those who use k&n cone filters you dont wanna get your sensors contaminated with oil or silicone spray. btw, do let me know if i got ripped off...i dont remember paying more than RM1k to replace my e36 mass flow sensor...!

If you washed and re-oil your K&N before this happens, could be an improper procedure of washing(drying) & re-oil.
Normally customer just go in request for a wash and they want it fast. Who the hell can tahan 2 hours for a filter washing but that's where went wrong. K&N filter requires long period of time for drying, but since customer cannot wait then just aiya simply wipe wipe sudah la .. then the re-oil procedure, they apply on both side which is wrong, too much of K&N oil ..
The result is wet filter(water) + excessive oil = ...

for my case it wasn't due to improper k&n filter cleaning as i usually wash my own filter and wait for it to dry overnight under a fan. my mass flow sensor was damaged some time ago for unknown reason and i lived with the effects such as higher fuel consumption, lower performance, hesitation, erratic AFR, etc without knowing. perhaps it was damaged (or became less effective) due to its age (about 4 years old)...

eh dont la call people fatty...he may have done the right thing :stupido2: but who knows...businesses are bad nowadays. just doin some research here. i'm actually more pissed at BMW for making their spare parts so expensive. my next car will definately NOT be a god damned BMW!

Mine cost MYR 3.5 K - and it took 2 weeks to arrive .......

It's 'painful' but dun have a choice. + our weather ie dusty does not help either ..
I wonder how long it will last ...

Ess530i,

The Bosch Air Mass Meter is relatively cheaper than the Siemens.

The price for the Siemens AMM, when I replaced mine (for M52) was RM 1400 few years back. And yours is probably a newer version, plus a little mark up from the mechanic sounds about right. You can always call a few parts shop and check the prices, Bavarian Auto, Inner Power and even Auto Bavaria.

Cheers

it could be half the price in SG. Many shops in Malaysia mark up like crazy and the workshops have to take the brunt from customers.

Inner power is selling at RM1800. I bought for my friend.

cash n carry 1.8k so w/ install 1,950 still ok no need to shoot him...btw idling especially during cold start is much smoother now, feeling better performance but not sure its psychological or wat

i understand that's where most spare parts dealer make their money...from the so called 'taxes' by the government which they usually only pay a fraction of it or none at all and charge us the full amount

cant comment on the power now coz almost every time i change something (especially if its expensive) i feel dat the car's more powerful dunno why hehe

I also changed mine ....just because the water was suck into the engine. The damage is RM1.8K plus additional RM20k for engine complete overhaull.....

Whats d symptom to look out for if one have a damage MAF??? symptoms dat r specific to MAF if any? anyone can shed some light on this? thanks

bavarian auto sellling the e60 MAF sensor at RM1,150.00 only and at this time when the RM is so weak. sounds like i got ripped off...
