Reprogramming Transmission Control Unit (TCU)

Hi, anyone has experience or knowledge to reprogram TCU. Recently, I have got it changed, but the gear ratios and changes is quite dissatisfying. Wonder if there is a way to calibrate it to the way it's supposed to be. In steptronic mode, gear doesn't change to 5th on its own. But, in other modes, everything is OK, except the ratio. Mechanic tried changing to a new one, and it's the same result. Any ideas?

howdy bro Tee,
if you have an m54,you can try the adaptation method ie:
1. switch key to ON
2. step on the accelerator all the way and hold for 30 secs
3. release

this would have reset the reset the gearbox to factory spec.

Re the steptronic ....mine when I select to S mode...it will only change up till 4th gear.That is what the Sports mode is about.The gear changes at higher revs.

Bro if you reset the adaptation, it will be quite dull. Drive aggressively and it will adapt to that. Drive slowly and it will adapt to that too. That is what it is all about.

Thank you brothers. Mine is a M52 for your kind information. The weird thing is, before I changed my TCU, in S mode, it used to go to 5th gear.
