Allow me to give me 2cents here...

Actually I am doing rep rims here in my factory... I am... Er... Can say a sub-con of a Taiwan brand...

For my opinion... Rep also being class into diff. category... Such as Korean stuff for branded stuff like LV too have A class, AA class, AAA class and such...

So if you are going for rep... Go for a recognised rep... Rep done by such as company with ISO cetified and with a real R&D dept. to back up with...

Comp like my mother company, sorry... We only copy the looks of the ori and not the quality of the ori... So I guess everyone knows and understand what I am saying here...

Ori done it with one whole piece... We? We did it with plastering it togather... I don't wish to go in more details here as I believe I should not reveal more... HaHa...

Go for only reps done by recognised company...

My 2cents!

Wow!!! This is the best answer to my question so far!! Thank you very much. It would be very kind of you to reveal which are the recognised companies and what label do these go along with?

Very interesting... but am sure u can reveal more that this... :) Besides, nobody knows u.

All I need to know is if its safe to use i.e. at high speed/conering and etc.

Cheers!

replica wheels are obviously not as high a quality as the originals.

so ask yourself this.

say your bmw is worth 200k. would you risk yourself, your passengers and other road users by saving a few thousand (by getting replica wheels) when obviously you intend to bring the car up to high speeds and high cornering speeds.

its like buying a porsche and fitting in some crap tires just to save a few thousand dollars.

But has anyone using reps crash or got into an accident due to the rim giving way? And you mentioned risks, and this is based on yr personal experience or u heard fr. 3rd party or just assuming?

Am not pro reps, but just need to findout more.

well, i had a friend who purchased replica wheels. He fitted it to his car, after tracking it for a day, on the drive home, the wheel flew off the car. All the spokes broke.

Also i did recall seeing a 46 along the NS Highway near ipoh, it was sitting on its belly, all the wheels broke.

But it is your choice, replica wheels will not garantee you that their quality. So if you haven't seen or heard a failour, would you want to take the risk and be the 1st?

Thanks for your reply. That's just what I needed to know.

I don't need to be the 1st. Am sure many here uses reps.

hello chaps,

Im no expert when it comes to rims, but i think logic is required when you consider the circumstances.

1. How much mileage do you do - month/year ? I do 40000kms a year
2. What are your driving conditions - Highway, City, Combination ? Highway mostly
3. What are the road conditions like - Fair, good, bad ? good
4. What tyres are you going to use ? im on RFTS and will change to Toyos soon
5. Have you lowered your car ? Not yet
6. Is your car show or go ? Mine is go go go

Then think whether the rims you are going to buy will be suitable for your car, your driving conditions and the way you drive.....

I hope this helps in what little way possible.

Regards
