Hi guys,This may seem kinda lame for me to ask but honestly I have no idea... to get a set of original 17 " rims or to get replica ones? I heard from ppl that replica ones are not that good coz of the weight of our E36 which the replicas couldnt stand. How true is it? Just wanna do a survey, how many of u are using original 17" rims and how many are using 17" replicas?Reason for me to ask is... might wanna change to 17" rims like most of u guys do here :) ehhe thanks to Lee36328 for the photoshop effect. A friend who saw the pic said the 17" looks cool with the lowered effect and the original 15" looks dull *sigh*Appreciate feedback and comments :)

Get the originals if it's possible. They are very much better in terms of weight, finishing, quality and strength. Not to say, if you were to sell them later, the rims will have a better resale value as well. Definitely worth investing in the originals if you are willing to pay for the higher price tag. :)

If you don't get original BMW, at least get reputable OEM. Pure replicas are imitations and you can never know what kind of factory and quality control made them. Your life and others depends on your 4 tires, wheels and brakes.

Sadly cant afford the ori's yet. Im on rep's fr 3 years now! had to send all 4 rims back to the foundry to re-allign lately due to dents caused by pot holes and so on. It also shortens the life of bushes, arms, tires etc that hv to put up wt the heavy weight. Will get heavier on ur brakes, need some extra force then usual hence shortens ur brake pads life too[im a hard driver]. Worst of all the looks and shine are ald fading now! But if ur not a fast or hard driver it should be fine. So as all the abovesaid if ur pocket allows go for the best...And safety of coz!!

Cheers...

Agree that if you're not a hard driver, then replicas are fine. But if you're a hard driver, the cost of other repairs may outweigh the savings. And the safety aspect of course! :p

If i were u, by using E46, better u get the 18" M3 sports rim. Its much lighter and powerful. The price might be expensive but i am sure it worth to purchase and long lasting in term of market trend.

Through the weight if all else look the same... Usually many ori rims can be made of forged aluminium alloys, which is stronger so they can use less metal to achieve the same amount of strength.

Buy the lightest (and the strongest) rims possible... unsprung weight affects the car performance greatly.

true.. but if u are at the shop that sell replicas... how to compare ler unless u have one ori with you.

now the next mind blogging question is that would the shop pass it off as a second hand ori?

hmm... i wonder if anyone has a list of rim and weight?

p.s
does anyone know what the average pricing for replicas?

Replicas for 17" will cost roughly around 1.8k... in Klang of course.

But man... after talking Joe, I seriously hv my doubts bouts replicas. Still battling within myself... ori... reps... ori... reps... :(

hey.... share ler bro... on what doubts u have... i also wanna know leh... hhehhe...
