Removing E36 gear nob

Guys, Cant find the article to the problem so here goes. How do you remove the gear knob only(no need to remove the gear fork)? Mine's the pistol type and not the T or L shape gear knob. Mines an automatic gearbox. Shift to N then press the gear knob button(trigger) and pull upwards? Or something else? Please advice. Thanks.
